Every single contract takes up lifespan in some form. Curse is a 100% unmissable KO shot. A gun can malfunction. Curse won't. A gun makes the gun devil stronger, which might lead to him blowing up hundreds of thousands of people again. So you use them sparingly.

Cure is great because you don't actually need any force behind your blows, if you have been grabbed and can't move your arm well enough to get decent force on a sword or mace you can still give a few quick jabs on the devil that has grabbed you.
