Am I the only one who kinda wants to see more medieval fantasy series from the point of view of a a rank file solider and not an adventurer, knight, or even a highly specialized task force in an army.

If the MCs were in that role, they'd probably die off very quickly.

At least use an Yas Forums accepted OP pic. Oh yes user, I'd would.
not necessarily. Think of a town watch SoL full of routine shenanigans and hijinks
Yeah something like this would be fun, don't know how many anons here on have watched a documentary called They Shall Not Grow Old but it interesting to see what soldiers sown when not fighting

Although it was about WWI and not a medieval time period, I think the fantasy aspect could kinda bridge the gap
You should read ares
So Sora no Woto but medieval period?
all i want is for The Black Company to be animated or mangafied with Silent, One-Eye, and Goblin being turned into Lolis.
this is the closest thing i can think of, set during the 100 years war
I think it was done in a WW setting but something like soldiers on down time for the episode, then each episode or two ends with them going off to fight. Next episode continues off at another time with different characters or the previous ones but with one or two missing and with a new character being introduced.
Berserk and Vinland Saga
maybe something like but instead of using a trumpet, they might end up singing songs closer to these although they might still be a bit to modern

Bersek if it stayed in the golden age, probably.
Vinland, not really.
yeah I was talking about Golden Age.
>Wanting to hear jap women butchering Tams
haha, you're a riot user
O'er the hills instrumental would be comfy in an anime.
>"With me ramrod in hand and a flattering tongue"
>implying they wouldn't just translate the lyrics in to Japanese or just use the tune and come up with something similar
Anime, are even good at doing Wars except for LoTGH
Don't you already have at least two to three different retarded historical fiction shows each season in HBO?
After the initial sex bait, they aren't that good if you peel the paint away. Same old modern soap drama shlock
Otakus wouldnt consume shit. If you want good medieval story telling, read a book. Try Pillars of the Earth by Ken Folnett
>Not wanting a medieval fantasy version of Generation Kill
You know I never got around to watching it, is it any good or is it your standard HBO show with blood, sex, and preaching.
its good, a lot more real than the usual sensationalized war shows/movies
Goblin Slayer is kinda like that.
You know its legit when the marines are bunch of lovable crayon-eating retards that. Really good, hilarious, fuckin recommended.
That's true, but I guess he just wants someone who is part of a unit instead of just a guy who fucks around with Goblins who coincidentally formed a party.
GuPies sing the Katyusha and Chanson d'Oignon without translating it. Butchered or not, it works.
No, we need to go older
You never watched generation kill, haven't you?
older? If you go all the way to the stone age, you'll get Sousei no Taiga pretty much
Could be interesting if you pair them up with a noble
Remind me, was it Wellesley who said the famous quote
>"we have in the service the scum of the earth as common soldiers;
Former soldier's a pretty obvious background for an Adventurer. Read: Mercenary.
OLDER
cute girls in trenches keeling over from various diseases
What if the MC is the Unit? Think something like the All Guardsmen Party but Medieval Europe.
I have just the manga for you, bro
I prefer them getting shot in the gut and slowly bleeding to death.
one of the best, give it a try
>last translated chapter years ago
Just when shit was getting good.
Is it still running? I'll have to pick up the raws if that's the case.
oy vey
Rank and file soldiers didn't do anything interesting, they just walked around and stood in lines.
then they routed and were run down by enemy cavalry lmao
that's right, it's not safe for a couple of little girls to be near j*ws
I love this website.
Berserk still was out of view of the special snowflakes of the story.
Goblin Slayers is pretty close to that no?
Pretty down to Earth most of the times.
Grimgar is literally about a bunch of grunts trying to git gud.
Yeah it's styled as a MMO isekai but the theme is still there.
Issak is sorta close to that, except that it's full of "honorabu samurai most powerfuru warrior" bullshit.
Still pretty cool though.
His feat isn't all that powerful yet, the manga is still decently grounded.
You want another golden age huh?
>isekai character """"invents""" guns
Hawkwood is up your alley.
Oh yeah, can't believe I forget this.
Very good manga so far.
this
It's been a while since I read it but wasn't there a part where he took several armored guys single handed?
Also he's one sharpshooter basically dictating all the battle he's in which is kinda pushing it for me. I get that snipers weren't really a thing but still.
Yeah, but he's targeting gaps and such, kinda unrealistic, but not the point where he's slicing plate armor off like in normal anime.
And he's killing enemy general, which to be fair, is revolutionary for the times, his gun wouldn't even be possible until two centuries more in Europe (with rifled barrel and mini-ball).
Rifled barrels already existed at that time. It's just that reloading took forever, because you needed to literally hammer a bullet down the barrel, so they were seen as impractical for military purposes.
Good to know, so the gun is still unrealistically advanced nonetheless.
The early modern period was the golden age of mercenaries rather than the middle ages.
