I dropped the manga after the first volume and didn't really watch the anime outside of a couple of episodes so I can't really say which is better. Out of every manga with an adaptation I've read and watched the only one I'd say definitively is K-ON. Other ones that I see people say are better I don't feel the same way. Most of the time the people trying to argue that the adaptation is better just don't like manga as a medium and so as soon as the anime comes out they flip over to that side.
