I know, Dekinai san, I'd love to be able to do it, and I did take classes for a year, to get required language credits, but I can't justify going any further. I can't live my life just passively consuming media, and that's all japanese enables you to do. I need to make something, have an impact on the world, and I might be running out of time. I need to drop a bunch of hobbies, not pick up new ones.

You could learn with only immersion, but just deal with Anki drilling. It only makes life easier.
