Did you just speedread the conclusion of every demon fight? Gotouge doesn't make it ambiguous, in Kimetsu the buddhist version of the afterlife is very real, with Douma's it was even shown the full version of heaven.

He’s actually legitimately anguished here. He never made it show but he really did consider all his fellow demon slayers his friends. Poor Inosuke.

I really liked the chapter, it show both character growth from inosuke and zenitsu
Inosuke was the cocky brat who didnt care about demons or slayer as long as he fought some stronger enemy, he didnt even care about his fellow swordmans life
Zenitsu instead was the cowardly guy who did want tanjiro to protected him even egoistic like dont minding the girl he proposed feeling, and now is fighting Muzan telling both inosuke and tanj what they need to hear
I also think zenitsu was really the better swordmans out of the main cast

so it was a sequel

He is obviously crying for his fallen colleagues, what are you on about, the chapter is clear as day about the parallels of how Inosuke and Zenitsu used to be, to how they are now.
