Big West does a pretty good job of keeping Frontier relevant in Japan. Between Crossover live in 2019, announecing a Macross F single by renting the biggest TV in Akihabara, and Megumi hinting *really hard* that a Frontier reunion concert is in tbe works, Japanese fans are very aware of Frontier. Shame about HG tho.

It was never good.

Like many shows then and now, Macross was plagued with budget issues, production problems, and had numerous animators / studios working on each episode. The result is some episodes are badly animated and / or have characters way off model. Especially jarring if you marathon the series and Misa goes from attractive one episode to derpy as fuck at the beginning of the next. The rest of the quality issues are just 80s anime shit that plagued everybody so don't think too hard about it. In general the mecha action was good and high quality for all hand drawn stuff, but even that had its moments. Certainly never got as wonky as Gundam at times.

Macross was always about idols. Delta just added more as side characters.

To describe you how mad I was imagine that I watched every other series (from sdf and it's movie to delta) and STILL didn't even touch Frontier movies.

All the build-up and confrontation between two sides went poof.
I didn't like Ranka, but Sheryl surving series ending was pure bullshit.

After watching every other series I understand now that it only followed a history long tradition of being utterly incompetent in terms of proper story continuation (outside of plus and movies, I'd say), but being my first it angers me to this day.
