What’s up with the isekai hate?
What’s up with the isekai hate?
nothing
Because isekai is shit. What's not to hate?
It's escapism!
Can't you see?
It's not healthy!
There are good isekai and bad isekai.
Its a garbage genre
Why is it shit? Because it’s an outlet for fantasies? Isn’t that the entire premise of anime?
>implying anime in its entirety isn’t escapism
Youre a garbage genre
I think the problem with isekai is that it's just a lazy way to make a main character special.
Bofuri is AOTS.
Normalfags
it serves as a grim reminder to the weebs that they won't have a harem or go be a hero by beating up monsters.
How representative is Reincarnated as a Slime as an isekai? Cuz I dropped that shit.
Normalfags again parroting whatever e-celebs that they are enslaved to had told them, maybe. I don't watch them so I don't know if they had ever shit on isekai
Self-insert protagonist that is therefore an an uninteresting character.
There is plenty of "anime" without a self-inset protagonist, and not all "isekai" has it either.
Too much bandwagoning, little originality.
How does Yas Forums do it? Even with all it's flaws it still manages to maintain a level of quality far above the other media boards.
Depends what part.
The whole "MC starts useless but somehow gets OP by the end of the first to third chapter" is pretty much present in 99% of isekais.
Seinen and shoujo aren't genres.
Here's a fixed brainmeme template.
Because its literally all the same shit, minus some unique gimmick in the beginning that gets dropped a few episodes in as it devolves into yet another otaku fantasy harem series. That and exposition ad nauseum makes the stories extremely flat and boring to follow
It's the flavor of the decade,or it was. It's not that the idea of people getting into other worlds is bad,it's not that terrible isekai anime comes out every year,it's the fact that every season there is a new or a new season of an adaptation of a LN isekai im just tired of this shit already.
Once the new big thing comes out people will beg for isekai to come back.
Also NOT an isekai.
And you can feel it when they don't give a fuck about their setting this character is supposed to be special within and they're just cribbing from what they remember about an RPG.
Isn't that a quote from one of Yas Forums's banners?
Also final fantasy advance, you ignoramus.
The problem isn't that it's escapist fantasy.
The problem is that it's the same escapist fantasy every time.
I want to have escapist media actually send me to creative and cool worlds.
Isekai as a genre does not provide this:
1: isekai basically always takes place in the same trite setting
2: the main character's interactions with the world are always literally the same
3: considering the setting is always the same, the only thing interesting is the main character, and the main character is always the same too
4: the main character being from another world inevitably stops being relevant two or three episodes in
It's so cliched it wastes everyone's time, and most importantly, my time.
I want escapism so, like I said, I want cool new things, not the same old shit over and over again. As escapist fantasy it's real fucking shit.
Black lagoon allows me to imagine being a modern day pirate. Guren lagann provides an awesome post apocalyptic setting with cool mechs. Baccano allows me to imagine being a gangster in new york who's fucking immortal. What does isekai provide for me as a fantasy to be immersed in? Fucking psuedo european setting, cheat power, muh advanced farming and technology, etc etc. Fucking yawn, I don't give a shit.
The only differences between most popular isekai are marginal and irrelevant at best, and the similarities so blatant that it's embarrassing.
>Once the new big thing comes out
We're only seeing the tip of the iceberg that's isekai
It's actually a lazy way to give exposition.
Checked. Also pretty much this. It's always the fucking same and there are only a few that are worth reading.
Not enough aubergine
A few do end up standing out for breaking those cliches though. Not a lot but that's what makes them good.
It's better than isekai; it's a psuedo-isekai with zero consequences to the characters' actions because the "isekai" world is just a game world. Thus, no tension, just Maple and Syrup being cute as fuck.
Its the genre I never knew I wanted.
The problem isn't the genre itself. It just has many amatuer writers that don't know how to write a proper story.
source
you watch one, you watch them all. There's no variety, there are a few exceptions, but most Isekai is the same shit.
You are here alone again
In your sweet insanity
All too calm, you hide yourself from reality
Do you call it solitude? Do you call it liberty?
When all the world turns away to leave you lonely
Kek now that I realized it we're not even touching the reverse isekai territory that much
It's a lazy framing device to tell what are overwhelmingly bad-to-mediocre stories.
Not like this shit existed since .hack//sign and before "isekai" was even something. It's not an isekai, unfuck your brain, please.
>It's not an isekai, unfuck your brain, please.
I just said it's "better than isekai." That's implying it's not isekai. Nice reading comprehension.
i don't like it
>The problem is that it's the same escapist fantasy every time.
Stop typing.
I was thinking about this manga for the past couple of days. Did anything happen?
New chapter came out
No, just cruising along.
Currently not an isekai.
Popular = Bad
You can only enjoy things objectively.
If your standards don't meet mine you are wrong.
Pick your favourite one.
They aren't? You're fucking implying they aren't? Do yourself a favour and watch more than two anime before you hit post.
It's basically SAO without any stakes.
The gimmick ran thin with me. I gave up on the show 4-5 episodes in.
It's mostly the protagonists, they are too predictable and boring.
Doesn't work like that
How does it work then?
>muh they're no different
You could say the same for any fantasy/sci-fi shit nowadays. That's not a legit argument.
Next stop, genderbent isekai
It works when you're isekai'd
You really can't.
You called?
>interesting and engaging character
>but what if he was generic coombait?
It's a shame that you have to be such a degenerate to them clicks
a lot of them are really bad
This is kinda confusing, for one side the isekai haters scream "aaaaaaaaaahhhhh I cannot self insert into this guy" yet they also complain about the guy being a self insert If you guys are so alpha why are you still posting on Yas Forums?
There's nothing to coom about her
>X is not bad because Y does something that is equally bad
Let's ignore that retarded thinking and zone in on something more pressing: do you see the OP post? Does it say sci fi or fantasy? No, it says isekai, which is why I posted about it, you fucking retard.
>it's not an argument
Go back to your isekai general hugbox, retard.
What if we time travel to the past but it's an alternate timeline, is that isekai?
are they any better at being genre escapist fiction than non-isekai though? if you want a bunch of girls on your dick there's an entire genre for that and they typically have much better designs. if you want a sci-fi bent there's no shortage of weird light sci-fi premises made over the course of 4 decades. if you want a mecha bent there's an entire genre for that. if you want some drama and romance there's tons of shit to go through that gives you nothing but that. it's not like isekai is bad or anything but when the best shit is basically "throw the original isekai gimmick out and make it actually about this" it's so much more likely to be worse at that than genre fiction that doesn't use that gimmick. minus a few exceptions that actually use the gimmick well and the perennial classics that are basically adventure titles.
>what if we time travel
Doesn't matter what words you put after that.
There must be loads of cooking isekai since Jap love cooking story
It depends. I'd consider something like this a form of isekai, but it would be better if he jumped into a timeline that had differences when arriving.
you're kinda autistic
Your point? Or you just sit there and bark your hate like a retarded little dog you are?
This post is saying there's no variety in isekai, but doesn't acknowledge the fact that other genres are the same.
Actually he was talking about cliches not genres but didn't realise it.
