I think King is a character who isn't the strongest physically (as the Hero Association believes he is) but rather he has the strongest LUCK.
In other words, he has unbelievably high luck which makes him just as powerful as people believe him to be. That would explain why King has never been beaten.

He's funny, has god level luck, and lacks pride/hubris. He's unbeatable by any conventional powers that take themselves seriously. He needs some one like Popeye or Arale to deal with him. Either that, or some one with no powers who's too much of an idiot to overthink things, but is in better shape than King.

This is the only person who can defeat King. Someone who doesn't even realise that defeating him is a big deal -- or someone who doesn't even realise that they ARE defeating him. We see him get BTFO during the OPM gang's scramble for hotpot, but it's not the focus of the manga panels and nobody else notices it. That's the circumstances under which King can be defeated.

only if he didn't think he could win AND couldn't back out. the hype at his back would keep him from retreating and he'd only want to retreat if he saw King doing some superhuman level shit or else he'd probably believe he could take him in a fight. on top of that, hercule ALSO has god level luck hax which enabled him to be the only person who never got killed during all of dragonball unless of course you count the whole frieza earth thing that got reset by whis. and even then he probably did somehow survive when earth got exploded for all i know because of buu bullshit.

What I like about his trope is that we see his inner monologues and how he really struggles in dangerous situations. Kazzy from Kengan Asura/Omega has the same trope as King but he doesn't pull it off as well because we don't see him stress out when people are having misconceptions about him

King wins even when he gives up, and his power prevents him from even telling normal people the truth about his "weakness". Saitama is the only one so far even able to learn the truth of King, but even he hasn't displayed any hope of defeating him. I don't even think a gag character could defeat King at this point.
Like this user says the only way King loses is a circumstantial victory in which there is no serious negative repercussion for King.
