I just finished the part today whats your thoughts? Overall I think its definitely in my top 3 with part 4 and 5 not exactly where they all rank for me just yet. Gyro and Johnny were fantastic with Gyro being my more personal favorite of the two but Johnny was a fantastic JoJo. The only major thing I could nitpick at this time was the final encounter and the fact it felt unnecessary outside of fan service but I don't know if it was worth it to fuck up the pacing that badly at that spot.
JJBA: Steel Ball Run
Best jojo. Best jobro. Best villain. Best part.
Only character I liked throughout the entire part was diego. araki perfected him.
I agree part 7 Dio might be the best Dio he felt more like just the douche we were supposed to hate he had stakes and was a temporary ally for parts of it which was a great surprise.
it's amazing that ringo roadagain mini arc alone is better than diu
SBR has a slow start, an excellent journey part and the ending is actual beautiful art in manga form
but somehow I still like part 3 more
Really good. In my opinion 8 takes the things 7 was good at and makes it better
Mediocre first quarter or so. Great finale but AU Dio, while making sense, was a step down.
Is that so? I'm really debating on starting it soon though I have no idea how much is left I'd assume at this point its only half way done if that I really just wanna binge it like the rest but being part of the monthly discussions would be fun too
thats quite the hot take, while I agree that arc in part 7 one of the highlights of the part I wouldn't disrespect diu like that if nothing else we got Kira from it
I also binged the other parts, so 8 is a bit different. May as well read otherwise you have years left to avoid spoilers.
Based
>Johnny and Gyro's relationship
>Valentine as a villain
>The artwork
>More immediately engaging than previous parts
>The character development was strongest in this part
>Some of the greatest fights - Mandom, Catch the Rainbow, Eleven Men, Johnny/Gyro vs Valentine
Cringe
>Overall weaker fights than parts 4-6
>Second weakest ending after part 2 - final showdown with Valentine was great, everything after was not
>Relationships between characters other than the two leads could have been stronger
It shouldnt have been written. Araki shouldnt have reset the universe and erased six volumes of canon.
A bit after part 5 anime ended, I decided to read part 6, which I read on and off for months. Part 7 then took me a few weeks to get through, but part 8 was so good that I read it all in about 2 days. That's just me, and I like it because the characters feel as fleshed out as in part 7, with the ideal setting of part 4, and an element which really leaves you questioning the actions pretty much every character will take.
Why do you care about our thoughts? Are you trying to justify how you feel about it and see if others agree with you?
the ending between Johnny and Diego is the most unsatisfying ending no cap
Alright guy, tell me where the fuck the narrative could go if the reset didn't happen. DIO is done, his allies are done, all the fuckery with the mask and the arrows is done with.
Pucci's death is the end of the joestar feud with DIO in all forms.
I refuse to believe that a part 7 in the original universe would be anywhere near the narrative quality and cohesiveness that SBR has.
>why are you having discussions on a discussion board?
I'm convinced he just wanted pucci the second for some reason
He should have ended it and moved on. I detest retroactive continuity and reboots. You are right that the story is over. Why bother with a reboot?
Ooo that gives me hope that part 8 starts stronger I might start it tomorrow honestly
>Catch the Rainbow
Honestly one of the coolest fights in the whole series as far as presentation goes for me so far even if the stand itself isn't that good just because of how situational it is
Is this set in an alternate timeline. Or was the original universe erased. Is JJBA a multiverse or a reset?
don't. we aren't doing this every thread
It's a reset, you will notice a lot of characters in 7 and 8 are remixes of old ones.
Pucci literally created the SBRverse.
I'd say its technically both
It's a reboot.
It’s an alternate universe separate and unrelated to the old one. The only things they have in common are some of the characters names and part 8 taking place in Morioh.
Araki didn't want to make up an excuse for a new JoJo part since every part had been some fractured consequence of part 1, so he decided to conclude the original universe in part 6. Unrelated to that ending, he wrote part 7 in a new universe reusing a lot of the same names, but giving (most of) them new faces and stories. Part 8 is a continuation of part 7 just like 2-6 were a continuation of 1.
Spoilers for the end of Part 6 the main villain destroys the universe and creates the one in Part 7
Do not listen to
Or
They are fakes and frauds
I wish DP fixed Araki's mistakes and made 1-6 feel more connected since they had the advantage of a whole universe of six finished parts.
You know I'm right.
Eh, there's something to be said about capturing the artistic vision of each part. Would be weird if parts 1-3 were in full part 5&6 style.
I don't mean art style, just foreshadowing of future parts.
Wrong.
Thanks, this makes it a lot easier to understand.
So does this mean the oriinalncharacters from parts 1-6 stopped existing? or are they now irrelevant and that the focus has shifted?
>Part 7 is the Resurrection of Christ
>Part 8 is the Garden of Eden
>inb4 Part 9 is Revelations
Honestly with all you going on about multiverse shit I just realized it could be interesting if we didn't get the part 6 reset. But instead did another part with a self contained villain (so it isnt just a 200 year time skip?) then time skip to a part that went to the actual space ages. I feel like the creativity that has already been proven through out the series would have a brand new frontier as far as character design and stands go.
We won't see them again because it's a different universe from 1-6
I think its my fav overall but it has a lot of problems, Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap at first looks to be a super cool stand but then it just ends up being exclusively used for additional lives for Valentine
>AU Dio vs Johnny was bad
I never had any problems with this. It functioned as an epilogue and showed Lucy's final step into maturity. Araki understood that the narrative couldn't possibly end immediately after Valentine's defeat, and there were some things he still wanted to conclude. I believe it just makes part 7 more rounded and adds to its greatness.
thats... kinda out of order
They exist but in a new world, some are slightly different but others are almost entirely new people, some even fuse.
The story was told.
Wrong
I didn't really like SBR. It isn't terrible, its highs are some of the highest in the franchise even, but there's a lot of meh parts (most notably like 85% of the stands) that drag it down hard.
Johnny, Gyro and to a lesser extent Lucy have very good character development but rest of the characters plot felt so unsatisfying, Diego still had that missing dad (or was it mom)? That was alive somewhere, Hotpants just dies abruptly, Pocoloco could have used more scenes since he didn't add anything to the story, Sandman was very cool but then he just became the villain of the week and dies, feels like plot with him running without his feet and having sand related powers got scrapped
I get what you're trying to say, but it really doesn't work considering that you could just as easily say "the story was done" after any part before 6.
Phantom Blood could have been the end
Battle Tendency could have been the end
Stardust Crusaders could have been the end
Every part introduces new characters and conflicts, if a hypothetical Part 7 just revealed some new side effect of DIO like every part before it did I don't think anybody would complain
And then later on he died of cold
either araki didn't understand how his own universe-resetting rules worked or (far more likely) it's just a reboot that used the ending of part 6 as a convenient way to explain away why it got rebooted
>either araki didn't understand how his own universe-resetting rules worked
That much is apparent from Stone Ocean itself
>time acceleration doesn't affect living beings
>Pucci wants people to know their fates by speeding up time
What are your hopes for Part 9?
>where
>when
>what kind of Jojo
By the way we don't really know the nature of the end of part 6 because the only person in the scene who hadn't died at the end was Emporio, but we assume that all the living things were transported to the "ireneverse" just like how they all got transported to the "pucciverse." The only difference between the original universe and the "ireneverse" is that Pucci doesn't exist. So it's not fair to say that part 6 reset the universe, it just tweaked it so that part 6 wouldn't happen.
That's why Pucci literally did not create the SBRverse. It's more accurate to say that the thematic element of creating a new universe inspired Araki to create a new JoJo universe for SBR.
Pucci literally created the SBRverse.
>The only difference between the original universe and the "ireneverse" is that Pucci doesn't exist.
Even this is just a mere assumption
That really depends on what happens in part 8. The story could continue linearly, so that the end of part 8 causes the beginning of part 9. It could also be an alternative continuation of part 7, like how parts 1-6 played out. Regardless I think he uses the current year for the setting, and I think maybe he tries to write a female lead again. Where doesn't matter so much as what the nature of the setting is.
Would you guys consider Part 4 (and 8 I guess) as Urban Fantasy?
Most of Jojo is.
Maybe? More supernatural mystery
