What do you like about Mel? I think I have a weakness for overly genki, and kind characters. I just like how Mel tries to do her best to cheer people up and while she may not get other people's feelings, she is always doing her hardest to making them feel loved.

Shining Star ended up being the best /ai/ show of the last season.
Ironically, despite being the ugliest show in terms of visuals, it felt like it had the most soul.

I love Mel so much.
She is like an insect, a giant praying mantis or butterfly. She comes and goes as she pleases and does what she wishes and her thoughts and the logic behind them can sometimes be entirely alien. The way she sees the world is not like anyone else. She can be a brilliant scientist - though she doesn't really care outside of situations like calculating the trajectory to catch a falling Anna - but also fails to take into account simple things like telling Anna and Sara where she's going for years at a time.
She seems superhuman, as evidenced by the scene where Suzu - a super-fit young girl who's achieved the realistic higher levels of skill and fitness for a girl her age - is utterly BTFO by Mel, whose athletic abilities are clearly several times beyond what's natural or possible for a regular human being. It's as though she runs on cartoon logic while Suzu is stuck in real life.
Mel's crazy and childlike personality, vocal delivery and English-Japanese manner of speech are well-crafted and effortlessly, endlessly enjoyable (not that the task of writing a character like her who's actually charming and lovable is effortless). She forms a great and FUN contrast to the rest of the cast and fills the role of Anna and Sara's teammate and friend well.
The only thing wrong with Mel is that she didn't destroy Mirai in their 1v1 when she was shown to be top of her game and Mirai just sort of turned up.
