It's not even a manga but a manhwa. Not being able to forget about it isn't much of a feat either considering for how long I've been following the story.

The initial promise was in the team-focused conflicts against the Tower's native fish obstacles, but the plot swerves into beamspam fights against other climbers. Those particular readers were essentially bait-and-switched.

SIU's art when it comes to nature (i.e., not people) can be amazing, but when it comes to the humanlike characters, you don't get a sense of "cultural style" from them. He can write meaningful political conflicts, but fight choreography seems outside his element.

I wouldn't go as far as saying he can write meaningful political conflicts. The local populace is always borderline retarded like you can observe during the Wall arc.
On the other side, Jahads squadrons are sheep who blindly follow the guy for god knows what reason. There's no explanation on why the squadron is so well organized even though the king hasn't had a need for them in thousands of years.
I do like FUG somewhat but there's no real substance to them outside of some ancient guys plotting around without ever actually doing anything. They're flip-flop between being good and being bad depending on what Bam needs as a motivator.

Plastic surgery doesn't correlate to whether or not anime & manga is popular. If anything, the popularity of it contributes to Koreans opting for plastic surgery because it mimics beauty characteristics that are exaggerated in anime.

I think this also goes without saying but since you clearly aren't very intelligent, I'll have to mention that manhwa or "gookshit" is directly inspired by manga or "weebshit" because of the visual and cultural similarities as well as similar writing styles.
