just finished episode 17 of trigun and can someone tell me what the fuck did i just watch

Lurk more, faggot. And finish watching.

>lurk more
fuck you mean i watch whatever anime i want at any time i want
doesnt help that im watching this and bebop at the same time

Are you not paying attention to the story?

>the same time
Are you some ADHD zoomer? Just watch one thing at a time you dumb fuck.

>not reading the superior manga where Vash's and Knives's backstory actually explains their character motivations

Trigun is honestly mediocre. It has some really cool design but god some of the later battle is hard to read. Too much shit on all the panels.

>doesnt help that im watching this and bebop at the same time

Yeah I've only read the manga so I don't know what OP's problem with their backstory is. It fit perfectly in the manga.

Trigun gets shitty in the second half, once the plot kicks in.

nah i want to compare and contrast which '97 series is best

You read it for the characters and the plot, not the fights.

But it is pretty clear that Nightow was imagining some pretty epic fights in his own head, and it would be nice to actually see it properly visualized in an animation.

Attached: feels_like_i'm_holding_nothing_at_all.jpg (2048x1456, 1.17M)

>plot
Nightow is not a great writer. He's makes some cool character design/weaspon design. If you think the plot for Trigun was novel or all that good in anyway you're delusional, it was functional at best.

no no ya got it all wrong fellas
im not confused by the story, im posting by how much the last episodes went from 10 to 15 to 150 (to me at least)
ie: im REALLY fucking loving this series so far

The production company went u see I think, or at least the books original publisher. Wasn’t their supposed to be a third giant sized book? So that whole thing got scrapped for maximum? Why haven’t they gone back to give trigun the full metal alchemist brotherhood treatment?

Are you having a stroke user?

Read. The. Manga.

A little bit, just auto correct fucking the first sentence

>the books original publisher went under which is probably why the anime got canceled

apperently japan (and states too but mainly japan) was having a really up the ass moment and the nips didnt like how there were too much guns in the show, especially with the rise of school and just shootings in general at the time
doesnt help that nips werent really into western culture (cowboys, rust aesthetic etc) and lack of japanese culture was a bit of a turn off (which is weird considering Bebop was just as succesfull both on the west AND east)
finally pretty sure the publisher went out of business until the writer found a new one and continued with maximum
source: wikipedia so believe what you want. Im only a little skeptic since theres the whole gun thing and bebop was fine. other points i get though

Ie: what this guy said

oh im definetely planning to, after finishing the series and watching badlands ill move on to maximum. original just to skim and see if theres real differences that are SUPER big

reading is for fags

>lack of japanese culture was a bit of a turn off
there is nothing nobler than genociding japanese culture

Watching unfinished abridged versions of manga is for fags. Though Trigun's manga is probably the hardest to read out of any manga I've read. The mangaka is allergic to putting those tails on speech bubbles to let you know who is talking. And the art in general gets messy.

Dude the show got canceled before maximum was a thing, it’s the same difference between the original full metal anime and the manga

The core concept was simple and strong enough to carry a great story.

The character arcs were also great

Attached: chapel_vs_hornfreak.jpg (1024x1449, 347.52K)

yeah thats what im (trying) to say
years after show/manga got cancelled, maximum was made after the writer found a new publisher

I don’t think it was years though I think it was just a few months. Trigun was the first manga I bought as the books came out and I didn’t watch the show until a few years ago, I think the book is better with the exception of one moment towards the end

>with the exception of one moment towards the end
Curious, which moment? Vash vs Legato?

Attached: he_actually_completes_the_set_the_madman.png (1024x1449, 1.76M)

i could be wrong but too lazy to look it up ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

that looks shit, less is always more.

The early manga art was indeed quite terrible. The improvement once Maximum started is honestly quite jarring.

Attached: all_but_one.jpg (1024x1449, 553.74K)

not talking art, do you really need a complicated as fuck plot device to make people start fighting? why would you even do such a thing? what style benefit can it possibly provide?

Pretty much, I liked the fight on the books despite how messy it got but the simplicity of the fight in the anime made it superior, but I liked his(?) character more in the books over all

It's not complicated at all.

Vash and Knives have ongoing conflict due to their backstory. The last confrontation between them (the July incident) leaves Knives heavily injured and sets up the series' start.

Legato is pissed off over what happened to his master and wants to torture and kill Vash in revenge. And since Legato is messed up in the head, he decides to make a game of it.

Attached: 66.jpg (1024x1449, 397.41K)

The coin case is just a meaningless gimmick that Legato added for his own amusement. It's not actually important to any of the character motivations. Vash doesn't even try to collect them.

Attached: 67.jpg (1024x1449, 529.4K)

Not the plot, the plot device. Coins and hired guns and a contest? Its just a mess. Not 'western' style, definitely not the glorious spaghett style anime excelled at. Also very weak as a character trait, hiring minions to do dirty work. That's not setting him up for a long deserved fall, that's putting down a pest. A bug. Where's the drama?

The Gung-ho Guns are not hired guns. Just like in the anime, they're Knives' personal army.

The coin game is literally just something Legato made up because he ain't exactly right in the head (and Knives was not pleased about Legato using the Gung-ho Guns for personal amusement).

The coin game also explains why Legato kept sending them after Vash one at a time instead of all at once; the anime never even bothers to explain why or who the Gung-ho Guns even are.

Attached: 68.jpg (1024x1449, 278.95K)

okay not hired guns, hired goons. mooks, minions. Mango Legato is middle management salaryman tier villain.

Yes and he’s well aware of that and of knives thoughts of him hence why he hates vash so much

You don't consider the Gung-ho Guns to be goons/mooks/minions/whatever in the anime?

they're villain of the week tier, sure. They serve to develop VASH as a character, nobody cares about their tragic villainous backstories, only villain HR would give a fuck about that nonsense and NOBODY would give a fuck about villain HR.

>They serve to develop VASH as a character
They don't do that in the manga?

What are you even complaining about?

Attached: 192.jpg (1024x1449, 458.08K)

>doesnt help that im watching this and bebop at the same time
Are you living in 2002 or something?

Legato/Knives are weakened as characters by all this explicit connection to super weak mook characters and further weakened by their minor petty motivations and actions regarding them.

>this guy that was weak as balls is the main antagonists personal retainer
what a fucking weakling that main antagonist must be

yes
been watching anime on my ps2
quite comfy experience
just like the obnoxious 90s fags, its our turn now
all is good with the world~

Because in the anime the Gung-ho Guns had nothing to do with Legato or Knives apparently

there's less, they don't make the hierarchy and shit explicit they just march up and do their thing. the fights are still structured so the next is always harder with higher stakes finishing with legato. the structure not some dialogue handles all of the important dramatic functions.

>they don't make the hierarchy and shit explicit
You talking about the numbers? They're numbered in the anime too.

Pretty much everything about the manga was good except for fights and action scenes

Attached: Never could have been worse.jpg (996x700, 78.8K)

Everything about wolf wood was great and I’m surprised how much I liked his replacement

Livio's character arc is one of the best ever.

His final fight was honestly one of the most inspirational things I've read. Yeah, at its core it was just a "the power was inside you all along," but the whole character arc he had with Razlo just made it work so well.

Attached: weak.jpg (1024x1449, 397.64K)

>Livio, that's right, Livio, this pair, we created together. I'm the strongest. In other words, that means... you're the strongest.

Attached: strong.jpg (1024x1449, 519.31K)

Honestly I think that’s what makes trigun work for me, it’s pretty generic in terms of the broader strokes of the story but it’s use of the emotions in it is top notch

TriMax does emotion very well.

The shot on the couch next to Vash is the iconic one, but I think the one of Nicholas watching the confetti fall and realizing what it's supposed to mean is the real emotional climax

Attached: welcome_home.jpg (2048x1449, 928.5K)

read the manga it explains things better

>explains things better
they're laid out plainly in the anime

I don't know I just feel they exposition better in the manga.
I kinda missed that it took place on another planet entirely or that Vash was literally a Deus ex Machina

Does the anime even go into ren?

It’s true the tenth book is absolutly the peak of the series, but I’d like a sequel to see how knives attempts to redeem himself

you might be a simp.

the reveal was slow though I can see how little foreshadowy details would seem to stick out better in subsequent views to the point that I don't remember ever not knowing it.

Yep, calls back to her weird little tune they sing in like every ep plus the knives backstory ep. Doesn't cover more than it needs to.

>I’d like a sequel to see how knives attempts to redeem himself
Uh...

Attached: appletree.jpg (1024x1449, 419.4K)

I know but what other shinanegains would he get into on his quest to make this planet habitable

I dunno I liked the expansion into their history as plants and the relationships between humans and the life givers they seemingly take for granted. But different strokes I suppose
