I don't remember Rachel having those snake-like eyes in the story.

Which is nothing for the people in that story. People can still look and act like children yet be centuries old.

It's not particularly consistent, for her and for other characters as well, many of them are drawn with fairly normal-looking pupils in general and with vertical pupils on close-ups because idk. Plus, there are a lot of characters in ToG with weird eyes, snake-like eyes are comparatively normal-ish, so I guess that they decided to stick with either one or the other for the anime.

It is being animated by a Japanese studio. They can just say fuck it and not anime anymore Korean stuff. What then? Korean studio step in with their horrible director and voice actor to adapt themself? How would that make anything popular? Look at China, they barely got a few shows that could be consider good and those barely make any wave internationally.
