Why does Season 2 seem to be so universally reviled on Yas Forums? To be honest, I liked the whole concept of Tekkadan trying to expand too hard too soon, shitting the bed, and ending up being scattered to the wind .
Is it because it's pretty much a 'semi-bad' end, which is rare in Gundam?
My only real qualms with the whole thing were the fact that Gaelio was still alive and Miyazuki going full Eva-02 in the finale
I dropped IBO when everyone who "died" against Ein was alive at the end of S1.
Jonathan Murphy
I couldn't really tell you, user. I'm a huge fan of both seasons.
Wyatt James
Yeah, that was bullshit, especially when Shino manages to do it twice. Still, pretty standard for Gundam, especially when you consider how many 'dead, but not really' moments Wing had
Mason Jackson
I was pissed because Rustal was an utter scumbag who got away with the same tactics he damned his opponents for.
And they acted like that dumbass underling was an acceptable "win" for Tekkaidan. Or that getting back at their former sponsor for betraying them dealt with Rustal coming out a goddamn hero for that bullshit.
I was fine with them having it all catch up with them and end badly, it was just Rustal getting his dick sucked by the show at the end that made it shitty to me. Not a Pyrrhic victory, not him getting his comeuppance or even inconvenienced.
Someone said the director hated Tekkaidan and personally had a role in Rustal's plotline and I could believe it.
Henry Foster
Why, because it's a revolting piece of shit.
Lincoln Kelly
Not as bittersweet as G Reconquista MC not getting to bone his sister
Kevin Gomez
Yas Forums just hates it because it saved gundam after tomino killed it with Greco
Dominic Parker
Rustal was a fucking dirtbag, but I thought he was pretty open about the fact that he was a dirtbag (i.e. blatant use of the Dainslief, because fuck 'em).
And I did like the little epilogue where they explained that he was essentially forced to restructure it as a properly democratic organisation.
The dumbest thing about the whole ordeal is that Gallarjorn bringing their own civil war under control actually boosted their credibility and standing with the public. Fucking what? It's like a guy shooting himself in the foot and then congratulating him when he bandages it up.
Michael Ramirez
Yeah, but he didn't personally suffer any losses or real issues either. So basically, the asshole bad guy wins and ends up doing the shit he killed the other side for anyways.
It's...kinda shit. Has no real narrative payoff with all the sacrifices Tekkaidan made outside of Atra having Mika's kid. Even Kudelia seemed irrelevant compared to Rustal.
Oliver Brooks
Some gamecard revealed that Rustal almost shit himself when shino tried to dainsleif him and his subordinates never looked at him the same way. Word got around and his god complex died.
Owen Peterson
That's on the level with Eureka Seven AO's last episode being in the fucking arcade game.
Fuck off with that shit.
Jose Roberts
plausible deniability. mcgillis broadcasted a coup. gaelio airs mcgillis' dirty laundry and gives rustal the legitimacy he needs to launch a counterattack.
targeting solely tekkadan, the revolutionary fleet and the fareed fleet while sparing the Outer Earth Orbit Regulatory Joint Fleet (coerced into fighting by mcgillis) paints him to bystanders as a harsh but fair man.
Noah Davis
Because Chocoman deserved better like living away with his loli wife in peace not in pieces. At least the entire final showdown against Vidar was absolutely kino.
Easton Long
Because only literal retards enjoyed S1 and as you know the dumber the dog the louder it barks
Thomas Morales
It is kinda shit, although I felt like he didn't need to get his just desserts; think it was a bit of a throwback to the whole 'human debris' thing and that people in power will constantly send others to die and order others killed and still look good for it.
I think the lesson for Tekkadan was (and it's a bit cliche) that the grass is always greener and they should have just been content to enjoy the family that they had created.
Not as gutwrenching and Miyazuki not getting to expand his fledgling harem
Landon Foster
It became repetitious. A character would get 2-3 episodes of characterization, and then they'd die. The problem isn't that they died; the problem is that their characterizations and story moments were too similar. Specific details would change a little, but not much.
Jason Taylor
Season 2 was shit because RAISE YOUR FLAAAAAAG wasn't the OP
>got a sick ass redesign >got the best gundam >got the best fight >got his revenge >got a cute waifu >got to fuck over his sister >got away with everything
Really? I thought it was the best season of an AU Gundam I've ever seen. The final arc is genuinely my favorite Gundam arc ever.
Jaxson Hill
>Ai is literary aborted arc red herring >comically stupid villains that survive with asspulls and deus ex machina >comically stupid protagonists
Chase Harris
Season 2 is the first time I've ever seen (in a Gundam series, not counting UC) superior numbers and firepower actually winning the day. I remember than in 00 and Seed, the escalation was so fucking stupid that two units could defeat that entire armed forces of the fucking world.
Having the protagonists get shot to pieces by railguns, and simply overwhelmed by sheer numbers, was a pleasant surprise.
Grayson Jenkins
One thing I like is that after he gets into space, he never even tries to fight Mika again. I'm serious, other than a skirmish in Bael's chamber, they never clash again. And even then, Gaelio's focus is on getting away.
He won, and all he had to do was kill McGillis. He got absolutely everything he wanted. What a fucking Chad.
Aaron Lee
>here this vile guy who is not above and proven to use forbidden weapons >oh god he used forbidden weapon against us and made it like we were first how could he?!
Samuel Sanchez
S1 was also shit. It's just that S2 was so bad that the japanese even started to meme its awfulness.
>characters die >except they don't
>when someone actually dies it only happens because everyone decides to be retarded for a moment
It was overall just a badly written mess. Like most Okada shows people see the potential at first but as usual Okada either loses interest down the road or she just doesn't know how to write a good ending.
Which ones were actually retarded? They were all pretty well deserved I thought
Easton Taylor
The small hint of mecha monhun ended up being way cooler than what the rest of the season had in store. Calmity war series never.
Henry Turner
I just got so fucking bored.
>Oh no, some shitter died. >but they didn't
Uh, okay?
>Somebody got betrayed when it was obvious they'd be betrayed > Uh, okay?
> Another slut wants the MCs cock, what will he do? > Uh, okay?
I just stopped giving a fuck. The series felt like the same shit over and over. The plot felt like a loosely structured recurring loop with changes. Bizzare.
S1s EARLY episodes are great though.
Jackson Campbell
Because it was more boring than s1 and had characters written as such blatant hatebait(iok being a screaming wrench in everyones plan despite being beloved in his factions men) and self inserts (juliet surviving a million times and there to fuck tekkadans momentum when its convenient) along with stupid shit(everything involving bael despite s1 showing notchar as being a thinkingman) to move the plot along just to lead to OMG TRAGEDY. Genuinely felt insulting to my low intelligence to think that they can write this crap and think theyre doing something clever when its so damn transparent about their purpose for each new character. MS designs and the notmonster hunter episode were sick though.
Juan Turner
Rustal and Gaelio should've died in the finale. Iok should've died to Naze and Amida's attack.
Just those changes and the ending isn't so bad.
Nathaniel Scott
There wasn't a single mention of Agnika Kaieru or Bael in season 1. It's all McGillis thinks about but it never came up in the first season. Makes it seem like a bullshit copout.
Also, McGillis didn't take any Dainsleifs with him for the final battle against Rustal? The second season just made McGillis a lot dumber so the antagonists can win in the end.
Juan Turner
Because everyone loved the shitheads at Tekkadan and the pedo and in s2 they both got their long coming comeuppance. Both s1 and s2 were a shitshow.
Robert Kelly
As bad as Tekkadan was, Gjallarhorn was worse.
Parker Rivera
>a show where pretty much everyone is a dick and where everyone deserves his fate
It's pretty hard to enjoy something if you sorta dislike everyone. At the end you only want the one mad guy to win because it would create massive chaos.
Anthony Brown
I don't get why everyone hated the finale and ending of S2. The main characters were boring characters without any character development or charisma. McGillis going full retard with his Bael autism and shitting the bed hard made the finale interesting and gave him interesting characterization compared to the generic Char Clone characterization he got in S1. It was also great to see the villain win for once, especially considering how boring and unlikable the main characters are.
Logan Stewart
>Muh Okada boogieman Okada's job on IBO was retard-wrangling Tomino and editing the billion volumes worth of material he wrote into the actual episode-length screen-plays, which she only did for half the episodes anyway (the other half was the sakurasou/bunny-girl senpai hack). You incels should google what "series composition" actually means.
Daniel Jackson
Gaelio stinks of Okada's pussy juice.
Wyatt Butler
I hated Tekkadan because of how un-self aware they were. They played stupid games and earned a stupid prize.
David Cruz
You know, they didn't actually have a choice. If they didn't back Chocoman's power play, they'd have lost out on the economic front and been ground into irrelevance. Basically they had no real options. Or rather, all of their options were bad.
It's a Yakuza story, the one that ends with all the protagonists dead, in jail, or limping away to start a new (more humble) life far from anything to do with their old ones.
Samuel Wood
>retard-wrangling Tomino Tomino wasn't making IBO, fool
Dominic Baker
>It's like a guy shooting himself in the foot and then congratulating him when he bandages it up. Works on Belka.
Didn't Rustal also did what Tekkadan wanted anyway, which was peace stuff and better work conditions for people not on Earth because Kudelia?
Logan James
No, after tomino killed it, IBO double tapped it.
Lincoln Robinson
>3 years since last mainline Gundam series (not counting Gunpla shit) Feels like we're well overdue for another one
Joshua Rodriguez
MUH BAEL only happened because Gaelio became notdead and McGillis had to rush his plan before Gaelio told everybody what happened and McGillis went full retard as a result.
Cooper Lee
And on top of that the Divers series (both of them) have been a horrible downgrade compared to the regular GBF. I liked Try, fuck anyone who says otherwise, but Divers is boring garbage that loves to squander any of its potential.
David Martinez
I'll also throw in that I agree on the lack of proper Gundam TV series sucking. OVAs/Movies just aren't the same.
Robert Evans
Also no Orphans no Namida as the ED
Jason Peterson
Dumb villain. His masterplan is literally just get inside the giant robot.
Luke Gray
name a gundam series in which season 2 doesn't shit the bed you can't
Jonathan Jackson
The real antagonist was Rustal. McGillis was a great and original character.
Bentley Bell
I didn't like IBO that much, but God those two final episodes were amazing. I literally cried when Gaelio asked McGillis not to say he considered him his friend the whole time.
Caleb King
It felt like they were doing that thing were you get all subversive and get all "hah, that plucky band of young soldiers, united by shared pain? They all just fucken die and the bad guy wins and they just shoot the guy in the ancient mythical suit, and we'll throw in a bonus that there's even more child slave soldiers now". Gundam has had a habit of not necessarily rushing to meet expectations but this just stunk of deliberately taking the most boring edgy path every time. There's basically nothing left to like about it.
Benjamin Cox
Except most of Tekkadan's characters achieve their personal goals. How is that edgy ? IBO wasn't edgy at all.
Justin Fisher
Okada can't write season 2s See Infected Wixoss
Brody Jackson
>even more child soldiers
Speedwatcher, one of the last scenes is literally them signing a joint agreement between Martian Union and Gjallarahorn that they'll ban using child soldiers and provide care and support whenever they find survivors.
