Flcl is shit bro
Why does anime have to be so fucking weird...
just keep watching it for the cool animation and music
>The simpler approach is to treat the wackiness and overexaggeration as merely that instead of trying to read deeply into how much of it was "intentional"
it was intentional but stating basic subtext isn't "reading deeply into it" nor is basic subtext deep, the fucking anime throws it in your face all the time, it can barely be called SUBtext by the end of the anime.
>but there are plenty of better ways to write a story with the same basic theme
subjective
>without hyping the human condition to astronomical heights
i would say that is the entire point of the anime, hell it's a common thing in japanese media in general, try playing a JRPG sometime.
>and alienating 95% of your audience
most people like it, but yes it's a hit or miss anime, nothing wrong with that, trying to please everyone or even most people costing your artistic vision is beyond retarded.
>soundtrack is wall-to-wall The Pillows
>people still can't get into FLCL
Why are plotfags so fucking dumb
You just choose a very difficult show to absorb. Core ideas may be simple, but the amount of detail is enormous. Fifteen years and 50+ rewatches later I'm still certain I'll pick up something new next time.
Having said that, I can see how it might be boring depending for some people, depending on worldview and life stage.
because art is weird
Kizumonogatari is a prequel to Bakemonogatari to be precise. There's a reason one was made before the other.
Texhnolyze is the definition of pretentious bullshit. You're right that it sort of hides behind some normal surface stuff but that just makes it even worse because that normal surface is pretty shit. And for as much as you shit on normalfag ratings Texh and Lain are both very popular among normalfags trying to put up a front of not having shit taste to the point where thinking those series as masterpieces pretty much points to having shit taste.
