Yeah, it's hard to excuse how much of a complete asshole she was right from the start. Naruto's been telling her for years that he likes her, and is constantly trying to make her biggest dream come true. Then she comes in and tells him in no uncertain terms that she'll settle for him because Sasuke was unobtainable for her at that time. It's really cold. Then she's confused about Naruto being offended by her telling him to his face that she'll begrudgingly settle for him in lieu of Sasuke. It couldn't be more of an insult if she was trying to actively be insulting, and yet she just does not get what she's doing wrong. She's a fundamentally shitty person who only cares about her own feelings.

It just solidified how little Sakura cared about people or understood the breadth of the effort the war and sasuke’s rescue was ruining everything. She has this inflated self-importance that’s always prominent but never is more obnoxious or patronizing than in this arc, this scene in particular

Why the hell would the reason for his parents being gone matter? She knows he doesn't have parents, she lives in a post-war, post-nine tails attack society. Even if she doesn't know about any specific event, she surely has to understand that his parents must be gone for some tragic reason. She's literally training to be a child soldier. She's not stupid. She doesn't care about who he is so much as how he can impact her. The way she interacts with others always follows this.

That was done to protect Naruto. At this point he was having panic attacks, ggetting beaten, humiliating, crying and lying in depression because of that. Sai told her that she was partly to blame because of the promise, and I remember Naruto explicitly saying by the end of part 1 and beginning of Shippuden that he'll save Sasuke as a part of that promise. She just wanted to partly free him of his burden. Stop trying to act like she never cared about Naruto when in reality I'd argue that deep down she cared about him more than she ever did about Sasuke. She cried after finding out all the jinchuuriki burden, she cried and tried to ran and save him during 4 tails awakening, she cared about him.

I think in the anime we actually get one scene with Sakura's mom calling her off camera but that's it
