People lost their shit because of the episode 1 dragon since the still used in the old anime was way better than generic animu dragon. Too bad the rest of the old anime wasn't any good.

It's pretty much because the art isn't nearly as good as the 90s anime. It has some poor pacing and janky or nonexistent animation, but I wouldn't call it a trainwreck or anything like that.
