Aight, get ready for a long ass comment that'll get turned into a post probably.
I've had the accusation of Isayama being a fascist or Japanese nationalist in the back of my mind for a long time. The quote from Kruger about the atrocities of the Eldian Empire sounded similar to what fascists do to make their supporters feel indignant about talk of mending the injustices of the past. Obviously this story has loads of themes of why racial hatred is stupid and ultimately self destructive and a surprising amount of critique of 20th century imperialism.

This chapter has assuaged my feelings on the matter. Its message is basically "National chauvinism is just as self destructive as racial chauvinism". I've just read the chapter so there are probably nuances I haven't quite caught yet like Yelena pretending to come from a colonised nation for narcissistic reasons.

I'll be transparent here and I'll straight up say that I'm a full blown Marx reading socialist. I have a considerably lower tolerance threshold to fascism than most because of the way I've studied history and the fact that I'm queer. I'm sure that Isayama isn't going full Marxist-Leninist here but this chapter, at first glance, seems like the assurance I needed to know this series won't have an ending that politically ruins the rest of the subtext of the series.

The intensity of it, and how the characters were acting according to the circumstances in a believable manner. It was exactly what this manga needed, to show how utterly broken and fragile the alliance is thanks to the history of the characters. A far cry from "let's go save the world :)"

2/10 what a fucking miserable pile of manga pages. The characters are still all over the fucking place. It only felt good because we had substantial dialogue. In the end it was meaningless because of Gabi. What a plot device.

The interactions between the characters (and they not being automa with zero personality), the difference of view from both sides, Jean finally finding out what happened to Marco, his internal conflict between fight or enjoy a peaceful and happy life (which was something eren alwais criticized to him) and an actual conflict between the rational solution with the rumbling and the irrational human morality, that is something that make people try to find another way, even if apparently impossible (and this is something already happened in our world too, just look at the cold war, were both sides had countless reasons to active the nuclear bombs, but both refused to do so and accorded a truce that decades later became an actual pace/tolerance between USA and Russia)

Hating Armin here is a crime. Armin did nothing wrong in the series. It's all Eren's fault for choosing Armin over Erwin

I like Hange and all but I wish she had come up with a viable solution instead of LET'S STOP EREN AND WE'LL THINK LATER. She's supposed to be a 11/10, so why can't she actually think? Also, it would have been nice if Isayama show us how Manlet feels about the whole alliance instead of turning him into the local sleeping beauty
