Netherlands or UK if you don't want to move far and retain EU lifestyle, otherwise get the Asia pill (Singapore, but it's not for everyone, you need 200/250k SGD to live decently, pretty good nightlife, if you are below 30 you will enjoy it) or the GCC/Dubai pill (tax free but either you go there with a family and mind your business, wake top, drive your luxury car to work, go home, sleep, repeat, either it's not the place for you)

yep, same experiences here. Was self employed for 10 years. Paid 50% tax and then social benefits around 1k a month also. And then personal tax like 6k.

I'm living in Wales atm. Both Swansea and Cardiff are really chill cities to live in, welsh people are generally more sociable than brits, and they're not as busy as the hellhole that is London (did 2 months there, never again).
Only downside it s the weather, it rains even more than Belgium so the winter is pretty awful.

There's also Portsmouth I was there for like a year, not a bad place and sunnier. Don't expect too much though, I got the sense that it was degenerating a bit (like all of the UK since they lost their empire... maybe Brexit will change things though).

I too paid over 50k of taxes these past years, in wallonia, to be treated like shit by the system of this dysfunctional place. The only difference is that no one wanted to help.
I said to a social worker that I was independant and she looked at me as if I was a retard and I should get a job at a McDonald instead.
