Is the University of Chicago elite?

will going to undergrad there punch my ticket to the ruling class in biz-tech-medicine-law-politics?

it's good, but you fucked up. Uchicago is the absolute worst of the elite schools. it's hard as shit and the social life there sucks ass and you're surrounded by basketball americans. you actually have to work at uchicago. if you had the credentials to get in there, you should have been able to get into at least 1 ivy (not princeton or cornell because they're similarly hard as shit), or stanford which would've been 100000000000x better than uchicago:where fun goes to die.

>t. stanford undergrad.

It's basically on par with Tufts.
Ivy League reject school.

no, it's substantially better than Tufts. tufts is straight ass. it's probably above berkeley cornell brown, but below caltech columbia duke harvard mit princeton stanford yale. both of these categories are above the ACTUAL ivy reject schools, like Northwestern, Boston University, UCLA, etc

most got in early. the few regular decision cross-admit losses I'm seeing on my uchicago c/o 2024 facebook group seem to be columbia and duke. i seriously doubt anyone would choose uchicago over hyps unless they're a uc legacy family

>stanford

I wouldn't choose Uchicago in a thousand years because of how aids it is, but if I wasn't me and I was some rando I would choose it over anything in the tier of Northwestern/Berkeley.

shut up salty cal fag

you got thorough answers last thread. no, an undergrad degree will not be enough for those particular fields. it will be a good start, but it wont "punch [your] ticket."

it's not "an undergrad degree". it's not like he's going to some retarded state school. there is a very large gap between the top ~20 universities in america and virtually the rest, which are all basically the same tier.

yea a lot of ucla and berkeley admits in the c/o 24 chicago fb group. and soo many introductions mention both parents attended / met at uchicago. sounds like a high probability i'll marry a classmate... if i go

it is a different feeling of ejaculation when you know u just nut in a billionaires daughter. you did good to get this far friend. so many people on this board didn't know they had to play the game in high school.

tech is the only field of the 4 OP mentioned where he can possibly succeed with just a bachelor's. its a prestigious school, but he's delusional if he thinks he can force his face into finance with a bachelor's in econ or anything like that

lurking on linkedin, there's a lot of recent uchicago alums at Goldman / MS / JPM / Lazard / D E Shaw / Moelis / Blackstone / Citadel / Greenhill.... faang.... that said, they all seem to note their chicago gpa was like 3.8-4.0

>math genius sister gets into uchicago
>parents take second mortgage to pay
>she decides to gets a fucking english degree
>mfw

Too close to basketball americans

i don't think you know what you're talking about. like 40% of graduates from ivy's and cal/stanford go straight into working on wallstreet. ivy's are literally feeder schools for finance.

to go finance. get your goldman sachs internship sophomore year, do some other good ones at higher firms, and graduate with anything that isn't garbage and you'll be able to find a place at one of these firms.

Its surrounded by niggers user.

Thats university of illinois @ chicago, which is a shithole and not even within 30 leagues of the same tier as uchicago which is globally renowned. With that being said, Uchicago isn't better when it comes to the basketball americans. the school is white but it's in the southside and surrounded by negro land.

she'll be fine. if you have a humanities degree from a top school you will be 100x better than an english degree from any other shit college. with that being said, uchicago has extremely generous financial aid, so your family isn't poor in the first place and you can shut the fuck up.

this is true.

University of Chicago is probably top 3 business/economics programs.

It was funded by the Rockefellers. It's their pet institution. Almost every single Econ/Finance guy to get the Nobel prize came out of Chicago.

Its better than Dartmouth, lets be real.

I would much rather go to Dartmouth than Uchicago for econ because Dartmouths undergraduate econ is unironically their best field and Dartmouth is 100000x better for social fun, even though it still pales in comparison to some other schools being that its in the middle of nowhere.

with that being said, if i wanted to lead my field and be an academic, i would go to uchicago over anywhere except HYP, Stanford, Mit, or caltech.

>implying the school you go to matters to anyone past your first position out of college

I work in Toronto so I come across a good number of people from Chicago.

First, congrats on your acceptance - work hard to keep your prospects open regardless of your major. Undergrad is mostly about effort and time management skills. It takes a minimal amount of both to set yourself apart from the rest.

Second, no, this is not a ticket to the ruling class. It will give you a decent shot at servicing the ruling class, if you're into that.

My impression is that people from Chicago work harder than people from literally any other major city in America, including New Yorkers. I don't know why that is, but it's fucked up. It seems like half of Chicago works past midnight on any given day of the week.

The single smartest thing you could do at a school like this is to seek out a billionaire's daughter and marry rich. It's doable, much easier than you think, and will make the rest of your life better in every way imaginable.

Find her, user, she's waiting for you.

basketball americans yu a funny mofo

kek. she at least come out with a posh social circle / boyfriend?

This. Columbia user here. You're just going to a shittier Columbia.

>I would much rather go to Dartmouth than Uchicago for econ because Dartmouths undergraduate econ is unironically their best field and Dartmouth is 100000x better for social fun, even though it still pales in comparison to some other schools being that its in the middle of nowhere.
True. Dartmouth has a great Wall Street presence, punches really above its belt there

>It seems like half of Chicago works past midnight on any given day of the week.

The alternative is leaving the building, which isn't recommended in winter.

i dont believe in program rankings really because they so poorly correlate to mid career earnings and success. dartmouth program rankings are a bit lower than the rest, but despite it all it's still an ivy and ivies look out for ivies. everyone at dartmouth seems so fanatically obsessed with preserving their green pride and furthering the dmouth agenda and they hire eachother out the ass as a result. unironically a great place with a great education, their program rankings suffer due to theri lack of graduate focus. i got in to dartmouth and was heavily debating between it and stanford .I think I chose right though.

columbia seems a bit soulless to me.

so that's what people really mean when they stress "networking"

Why the fuck do you keep posting this, OP?

It doesnt seem like the user who posted that went to such a school, so why are you evaluating his opinion as if it matters?
