Private Equity AMA

Hey Yas Forums,

I've lurked this board for a few years now and have never really posted much. I 7x'd on LINK (sold half my stack today) and want to give back.

I am currently working in PE in NYC and know that some people on this board want real advice / tips (rather than LINK memes). I'll monitor and respond live for like 30 mins or so and then check back periodically tomorrow. AMA

You work in PE but what investments are 'can't miss' right now? Assume I have six figures ready to deploy

no one cares and no one is impressed

>I am currently working in PE in NYC
Please kys but take out as many coworkers as you can on the way thx

I'm a lonely STEM PhD living in the UWS, will you give me a quant job?

What are your choice investments for right now?

Why would you sell link before summer? kek must not be an insider

When does this dead cat bounce in equities reverse and test coronabottoms again?

What kind of advice do you expect to give user? How neets can get in on private equity deals? I honestly don't know a question I want to ask you other than that. kek

i think we know about as much as the state of the market so i'll ask this:

how break into private equity from brokerage?

i got series 7, 63, 65, workin on cfa, work with discretionary accounts helping FAs manage their assets. where go? wat do?

Thread is off to a bad start

LINK, PNK, OR TRB SIR

Last time I checked this board is anonymous. Just trying to give back. Are you a no linker?

Only 20k. Was a student when it was cheap.

But okay, give us some advice.

I invest mostly in index funds. Sector-wise though, apart from AI / big data (obvious), I would recommend looking at public relations, single family real estate, and senior care.

PR - every corp large or small these days needs to have a good public appearance and this is easier to outsource than do in-house (well)

SFR - tons of tailwinds

Senior Care - this industry is already starting to take off, but it will really explode in the next 5/10/20 years. Anything senior care service-related is what I think is really interesting. Things outside the healthcare aspect of seniors.

It's not a large enough fund where we hire quants. If I was looking for a quant role I'd look at Elliot Investments. Paul Singer is a total loon but you would learn a lot there

Still have around 1K. What price would you sell at?

I'd say 14-21 days a

Why did you sell half of your stack today?

Got cut off. I would say 14-21 days after we really see re-openings take effect. This thing is far from over. That said, you might not like the FED but never bet against it. Ride the wave. Maybe SPXL or SPXS depending on your gut

Digits of widsom. It always fascinates me how many private equity guys say fuck it, index. It's eye opening really. Thanks for the info, I'll look into the other ones

Have to ask, any clients into crypto?

Sometimes on Yas Forums there are people looking for career guidance or what to do in school to set themselves up for something on Wall St. Wanted to at least open the door

The boomers bleeding everyone dry until their bitter ends sounds like a safe bet

LINK. I was considering HEX too because why not, but it might be a worse option than USO in reality

Is mathematics a good major?

I cross-dollar avg'd in so I figured I would do the same thing on the way out and at least lock in some gains

No. Which is surprising really. Maybe 1 or 2 but people don't talk about it much. There is a prevailing attitude that it's voodoo and a lot of people turn their nose at the mention of it so people keep it to themselves if they are

100%. BX and others made a killing doing SFR after 2008/9 and someone is bound to do it again this time after home prices correct

thoughts on new york mortgage trust.....thinking ofngoing all in

It depends on what your definition of "good" is. If you are interested in it, then yes. If you're asking in the context of getting a banking job after school, I would say only do it if you can maintain a >3.4 GPA while doing it. Truth is a lot of people care about that stuff when interviewing and it will be an uphill climb if it's lower. That said, still possible though.

Your college major is so much more than your job after school though. Do what interests you and the jobs will follow.

No idea. Something that might be relevant though:

A friend of mine told me that the way REITs are set up, they are only really worth investing in through IRA accounts. Something to do with taxes. So if you're really going to go all in, i would take a look at that aspect.

My choices at current college are math or physics, but im thinking ill transfer to engineering or business I've spent the last 8 years of my life in the military so I don't really know what I want to do, self employment is definitely the end goal. How I get there is the question haha thanks.

how does private equity work? is there money to be made?

t. tradie

I wonder if the lack of price action bored people.

Thanks for your service. I would use the military connections to your advantage there for sure when you are looking for jobs / doing your own thing. Either one of those majors will definitely get people's attention. During school I would try to figure out what aspect of Physics/Eng you're really interested in. That will spur you towards your own thing more than anything else

PE is basically buying a company and trying to sell it 5 years later for 3x the money. IMO there is money to be made at the top (megafunds like BX KKR CG who can really do whatever they want) or at the super low end of the middle market.

Upper MM investing is an extremely efficient market and I would be surprised if Coronavirus didn't cause a lot of consolidation / cull the low performers given everyone's portfolios are on fire right now

hi, i actually have a ton of questions and would greatly appreciate it if you could give me a throwaway email. I’m currently a sophomore (rising junior) and im running out of options. Thank you!

Definitely could have. I'm convinced it will come back so I'm holding out. Just good to have some in case the market cap soars. Don't want to be the one who missed the boat.

That said, I think a lot of people just don't understand it and only know what they see in sensationalist click-bait articles

Give back what? If you aren't 20-30x Link you're late. What could you possibly give back? I bet you don't even hold any Nervos.
