So it looks like the hospitality industry in the UK is fucked for the forseeable, with lockdown stretching interminably ahead of us. I've got about four grand in savings, GBP. What's the best way to turn my money into more money? I'm a total newfag when it comes to investment, speculation etc. What would you do in my situation, Yas Forums?
Change of career
Without income your 4 grand is nothing.
If you could invest 4 grand and kept depositing at least 5 hundred every month you'd be at a good position to hit some 2x, 4x and keep multiplying your money. If you're lucky without spending years doing it.
Without a job you're fucked.
You can try chasing something new, like take a loan and flip houses or resell shit but it's entirely dependent on you.
>hospitality
change? nigga you never had a career
I was waiting for this response, highly fucking uninspired my man.
Say I could get into the position to do that, do you mean investment in stocks? If so, what is the best way to git gud?
Lmao “git gud” yeah boy we wuz finance kangz n shiet. Not like this industry is hyper cut throat raping retards like you on a daily basis. Good fucking luck lmao
Cope
You’re not needed in the new world
so you already knew then and you didn't try to level up before. you're lazy
crabs in a bucket. pathetic.
So you don't know?
Nothing lazy about bar work, friendo. You wouldn't last a week.
can you live with your family or do you have ongoing expenses like bills/rent? That is the difference between 4k being a very comfy amount and a terrifyingly low amount.
Job listings in Bongland are down about 40% at the moment but you could apply for jobs in administration / data entry and expect to have some success.
I'm in a pretty similar situation - I currently have a shit banking job and have almost exactly 4k gbp saved. I'm desperate to quit but need to make a bit more money off stocks/crypto first before I feel comfy enough to resign in the current climate.
I mean, I don't know what I expected on Yas Forums. Four hundred a month rent. No family to speak of. I used to be a courier, so I could always jump back on that, but the money's shit, and a lot of the drops are to and from hospitals, which doesn't seem the wisest option right now. You say you've invested in stock, how did you learn the ropes? Have you had much success?
ya I don't plan on digging ditches either. read a book
Four grand is not enough to trade stocks despite what some r/wallstreetbets people here will tell you. It’s just too much risk and you should have some savings either way.
I think it really depends on your interests and skill sets, do you mind sharing what you do in the hospitality business? Are you a bartender or a hotel manager or something? (I’m guessing bar tending per your post above)
Are you trying to shame me into giving you free financial advice?
I'd sign up with an agency and try and get on the ladder with office work, it's much more comfy than being a courier or a bar worker if you can deal with the HR bullshit.
In terms of investing I just use yahoo finance for research, learned everything off youtube. I made a fair bit but I feel like it is pretty easy to make money in a bull market. I literally just chucked a few hundred into beyond meat, virgin galactic, telsa etc and then they doubled in value. I am currently not holding much apart from oil stocks I bought at rock bottom prices because I think it's very likely there will be a crash soon. If/when that happens I will buy a shit ton of stocks. I don't do options trading because it's for ADHD riddled kids and idiots. You are almost certain to lose money in the long run. I would also buy a stack of crypto and set sell orders so in the off chance they moon you will make a mint. It's not like XLM, XRP etc can get much lower, chances are they will pump and dump sometime soon.
What's your favourite book?
>Four grand is not enough to trade stocks despite what some r/wallstreetbets people here will tell you. It’s just too much risk and you should have some savings either way.
wtf? you could make money off investing 40, let alone 4000.
Yah I get it, but OP clearly needs a more consistent income than trading either way.
I'd learn to both code and design. And work from home.
Satan has spoken. He definitely is a true nigger.
OP, it really comes down to your risk preference. If you want those 4k to slowly appreciate in value, then invest in a low-risk, broadly diversified fund such as the MSCI All Country World Index.
If you feel like risking a little more, build your own portfolio of stocks of different industries that you personally like. Your portfolio could consist of Amazon, Lufthansa, Nvidia, Microsoft, Uber, whatever
Or you have lost your mind and put your 4k all in LINK, that'll be the only way to truly make it according to this board here.
I've managed bars, restaurants, and a theatre. Last gig was a combination of events promotion/management, social media and bartending for a small independent place, which will likely go under thanks to Coronachan.
What a bizarre take. Have you just realised you're an arsehole? I'd love to see the roiling mess the inside of your head must be.
Don't have the temperament for office work, did it for a bit. HR stuff makes me want to tear my hair out. Thanks for the pointers my dude.
Lmao what is this third grade bait, enjoy homelessness. Pic related, it’s 10% of my fun gamble money.
oh yeah for sure I just meant it's worth sticking like 25% of your net worth in stocks however little that is. Anyone who unironically thinks they can quit their job to 'day trade' is pic related
I've been looking into coding, doesn't particularly interest me unfortunately.
kek. Yeah, crypto always seemed risky af to me, but again, I'm pretty much a novice.
uh oh, looks like having loads of cash doesn't cure you of being a cunt!
lmao, 10% my ass. That's your life savings kid and you know it
If office work doesn’t interest you I would say maybe something like Real Estate would be a good field to change into. You can learn a fucking ton from home, it is much more freedom than being chained to a static workplace, and it involves the same type of intimate conversations you have with regulars at a bar. It can get pretty technical but it is a hell of a lot more interesting for non-mathematics types (like myself) than something like “learning to code”. I’m not familiar with the real estate market in the UK but I know that land there is beyond expensive in certain areas, there are desirable urban areas, and there are a lot of people with money to spend relative to most countries.
In the meantime, you can always find some retail job or temporary gig to bridge the gap.
This is something i'd never considered, and has given me some food for thought. I'll look into this, thanks user
I always wonder what goes through the minds of coping poorfags, and then I realize that it must not be very much at all. Otherwise they wouldn’t be poor.
you have NEO. you don't get to talk
you are a poorfag you stupid motherfucker
I always wonder what it must be like to have a silver spoon mentality, and not realise that there's no correlation between intelligence and the ability to spirit money out of thin air if you're from a disadvantaged background. But hey, good for you man. I suggest you invest some of those unimpressive gains in a personality.
Nah, I have 0 debt of any kind. No rent or mortgage. Own my car and have a high paying job. This is just my cherry on top. I’d bet good money that your net worth is negative.
You are a stupid poorfag who needs to get a job. When you see people investing their money and making more, it's their EXTRA money. I have $1500 in expenses this month, but I made $3000 after taxes. So I can afford to invest my extra $1500. You have no income. You are hemorrhaging money, looking for a way to gamble it because you're fucked.
My advice? Just bet it all on black.
Except not really because most of us here are not NPCs with no savings and no income. We meme a lot but we are the most successful board irl by far.
Correct
>there's no correlation between intelligence and the ability to spirit money out of thin air if you're from a disadvantaged background
king cope
Or is it just factually accurate, you buzz word spouting weapon?
There's a correlation between intelligence and wealth
I have a house worth 650k in Hertfordshire, England. You are a speck of shit on the sole of my shoe but I don't go around shitting on people asking for help on Yas Forums. You're a sad little man
the world started without wealth, and now there is wealth. do you suppose this was accrued through stupidity?
Good god. We've got a fucking genius here
He’s not asking, he’s baiting because he’s a retard who fucked up. Much like a gambling addict goes and asks family for money because “he’ll win the next time”. My family’s net worth is in the millions but I don’t ask them for financial help other than a place to stay. You likely bought that house young and watched it’s equity multiply. Needless to say, I will be much richer than you one day but I don’t care about wealth dick measuring contests. I just like to call out BTFO losers with an arrogant attitude, not those who humbly ask for advice.
it's simply cope to say that intelligence has no correlation with becoming rich if you start out poor. literally a manifestation of a psychological coping mechanism.
