That's not a very good thread starter image to use, if you believe in risk management.
The company being bought typically gets their shares liquidated at a slight premium, or exchanged for shares in the parent. The parent company typically sees a slight dip when they acquire another company. There are exceptions, but generally if you hold shares in a company being bought during a non-bankruptcy acquisition, you come out ahead.
