Can we talk about the potential merits/downsides of cryptoidentity/digital identity in the next decade, or what we can do to prepare for it? With Bill Gates’ ID2020 it seems inevitable the future is heading in the direction of digital ID. All memes aside, Idena has first movers’ advantage in Proof of Human, but it’s not perfect:
Pros -Trustless, truly decentralized -AI resistant (with Winograd rest) -UBI in crypto -Easy mining, novel consensus method -Built from the ground up in Go, anyone can submit code, active development -Network growing fast -Low mcap, high upside if it succeeds Cons -Lack of other or many usecases/not yet defined this early -user devs -Fairly dubious premine -Early miners received massive rewards (same with Ethereum and Bitcoin though) -Low liquidity/volume -1 node not guaranteed to be a single entity, not true PoH (which is impossible with current tech without KYC and PII) -Memed with 8 cores by a 13 year old
I’m trying to look at it from an honest perspective and hoping to generate productive discussion besides emotion based shilling or shit flinging FUDing
finally one thread that is not endless shilling or fud.
Another con - You can lose all your staked dna because of a error in the platform (flips not loading) or you will get flips made by 3rd worlders that are impossible to solve.
Owen Kelly
Keep making flips sirs moon indeed
Zachary Cook
stop, this is just gonna be another shit thread with anons flinging "good moon sirs" and "pajeet" at each other, stop advertising the coin.
Some points are easily addressable like -low liquidity: token wasn't supposed to be listed this early, main net will launch on Q3. -early miners received massive reward: true, but it's still early now, soon we will go to single digits
Other issues you have higlighted will be addressed by devs, let's see how they fare before main net launches. Fair analysis
Leo Watson
Not a valid point, once you have a serious staking bag you will be human status. By this point you are allowed to miss a session.
Ian Morris
it's the new LINK, simple as that.
Logan Morales
this
Jaxon Anderson
Think it’s a fairly valid point, especially if you’re serious about the project but get screwed on short flips. This has mostly to do with flip quality though. Also less likely to terminate identity after 3 validations
Brody Jackson
how is it not a valid point? you can lose 2 months of staking because of an error or by badly made flips, you will also need to find another invite. if you guys werent so fucking blind and tried to address the issues this shit wouldnt seem like a pajeet coin. Idena good idena moon idena perfect.
Jaxon Thomas
>not true PoH But that's wrong, you fucking retard. One node is guaranteed to be a human, but it is not guaranteed to be a UNIQUE human. Every node on the network is a real human being, and maybe 10-20% of the nodes are run by a common human.
Xavier Harris
Quote: "Human" identity gets the right to fail the short session without being killed (the identity becomes “Suspended”). Besides, once you become Verified, your stake will account for only 20%. But yeah, I see your point, the devs better fix the client errors and figure out how to show only decent flips on a short session
Logan Carter
I agree but this is the first thread in a long time with good OP, maybe we can keep the discussion on the civil side this was fixed in 0.8.3 version of client: >1. Validation session improvement: downloading missing flips sequentially
Matthew Hernandez
Add:
- the team is working incredibly hard
Jonathan White
>this was fixed in 0.8.3 version of client I wish it was, I still got two missing flips on the latest validation
Matthew Hughes
I was excited to see that last update, Id never come across a flip not loading but I’ve seen reports of it. I would like to see at least 2nd epoch newbies only showing up in short flips, at least they’ve had one prior experience with creating flips and hopefully getting feedback on consensus results. Yes, PoH is true in that sense. But I think for long term positive growth/potential adoption that will need to get figured out eventually. One other key point that another user brought up in a previous thread is that advertisers generally only use targeted ads using PII. The big predetermined usecase is advertisers buying coins and showing ads to nodes.
Thomas Morris
The advertising usecase is dead in the water, and I say this as a 10k bagholder.
Jackson Green
how did you get 10k dna?
Samuel Lee
bought some back in February and I've been mining since
Wyatt Jackson
nice, will be worth at least 5x
Brody Rogers
total newfag here, how do you mine?
John Turner
rip, this definitely needs to be fixed if the system is to rely on validation score for PoH >I would like to see at least 2nd epoch newbies only showing up in short flips A similar idea was brought up in community propositions for devs, you can vote for it on Discord to show support advertising is definitely retarded, there are advertising channels who offer more for (probably) less, I strongly believe legit use cases will emerge in time through community though. First thing is to get the whole ecosystem working well
Matthew Taylor
>I strongly believe legit use cases will emerge in time through community though That's what I'm really banking on. Advertisers like to target their ads, with the anonymity of Idena there's not much they can target besides crypto-related shit.
Nolan Morris
God when will you newfags learn that practically every coin from BTC on down has been essentially premined?
Hunter Parker
February 25th user? Got in after the first thread, bought myself a 10k stack too. Been mining pretty much since, 5th epoch. But I’m pretty skeptical of the advertising usecase too desu. Usecases will (hopefully) come in time. Biggest thing is to keep focusing on the roadmap and fixing bugs at this point in time.
Jeremiah Moore
Download the client from Idena.io, go to the discord, learn how to make flips and get an invite, then you can mine on any computer or a VPS node for 5$ a month, getting about 80$ from mining + validation and flip rewards
Thomas Long
Bump
Owen Cook
Another con: Inaccessible to many people (brainlets, disabled, tech retards/old people, 4 billion people on earth without internet at all) POH is only feasible for a small subset of people.
>The advertising usecase is dead in the water, and I say this as a 10k bagholder. Agreed, advertisers need data about who they are advertising to and by definition Idena is all about anonymity. And good luck competing with Facebook and Google in the advertising space.
