because each of its components and materials are shipped back and forth across the globe several times each before making its way into some warehouse

How are houses so expensive? Just cheap wood and particle board assembled by mexicans.

Quality actuators for desks are like $300 each, so that desk is a good deal even if the actuators are kinda shitty.

why don't you build one, fag

everyone is working remotely, everyone is buying desks. desks get more expensive. get it?

>Factory sells cheap to Chinese businessman
>Chinese businessman sells more expensive to American businessman
>American businessman sells even more expensive to you
Someone i know became a millionaire by getting cheap ass asian furniture that looked like noble high quality ware and he sold it for like 10000% the price to rich people in the U.S. who thought it's expensive ancient Chinese furniture.

furniture designer here. Walnut is expensive. If that’s solid and not veneered, maybe 1.25 inches thick and milled from 6/4 stock, the wood alone is around 300 dollars itself. Add in hardware of decent quality and the cost of aluminum (even just extruded stock) and it can add up.

Go to your local hardwear store and buy a laminated wood panel some screws and some legs. Have them cut it to your desired size and screw the legs on. You now have a hardwood desk for $100-150.

You can get a decent desk for $200 or less if you just want something practical.

I only buy fair trade, vegan, non gmo, free range sourced wood. That desk costs 2k but was worth it.

Quantitative Easing

Many years a go I used to be a charter pilot. Was flying some people for a furniture company that specializes in office furniture. Of course being the nosey fuck I am I took a gander through some stuff they left on board at a stop. Mark up on most stuff was 400-600%.

Its that easy?

Big desk doesn't want you knowing this

because it would cost you WAYYY more that $500 worth of your time if you tried to build a large electric height adjustable walnut colored desk on your own

that is, if you have a job

time + raw materials*

Not if you're some kind of NEET or a janny. Then your time is worthless.

Assume it lasts only 5 years, but makes a 50k/yr wagie who's usually productive 4 hours a day put in an extra 10 minutes more per day.

That's over $10k. So the desk is really cheap.

Ikea has pretty much the same style of desk for half the price

Bought mine used, someone downgraded their house and I got a custom solid oak desk for about $75 it's wonderful

It was very easy. I have no experience with woodworking and I didn’t even make the cut. It took me less than an afternoon to complete.

this but unironically

Check local stores, it should be cheaper there. This table is probably 200-250 max.

this.
people have no idea how much wood costs, most of their reference is pine.

I bought a fantastic desk at Goodwill for $5.

Or just make your own "wood" by gluing several layers of junk mail or newspaper or Taco Bell wrappers/brown bags together until you get the desired thickness. White glue is cheap.
