learning any relevant world language is a good idea
so, yes

yeah you can identify vases much easier this way

No not rly, anybody worth speaking to there will speak english

Naw all the chinks know english anyways because it makes it easier to sell us shit. One of the first rules of business in any Asian country (and that includes India, Japan, Singapore, Bangladesh, etc) is that you need to learn English. They're all taught English in school (assuming your parents aren't poor), and everything on the internet is english (assuming you're like the tens of millions of chinese who browse the internet through a vpn to get around their countries blocks)

Won't they trust a foreigner and be more likely to do business if the foreigner can speak mandarin?

Yes and no. I’ve been slowly learning for years by taking advantage of the invasion of Chinese taking over my sleepy Canadian city and what I’ve learned is mostly that Mandarin is hard and Chinese people are shitty. Do with that what you will.

If you're a cuck

naw they'll just hear the 1st sentence of your shitty mandarin, then start talking to you in english. They will appreciate the effort though (unlike French people who won't)

They won’t trust you (Chinese people trust no one, especially other Chinese people) but you might flatter and entertain them. In fact they’ll trust you less because they can’t shit talk about you in your presence if they think you’ll understand them as they’re also colossal cowards.

Which language is worth learning??

Learning a language is never a bad idea nor will it ever be a negative. Learn whatever you want, English is already the language of business and the internet and that won't change anytime soon

Mandarin is worth learning, it’s just incredibly difficult and I honestly think you’re better off not letting on that you can understand it. Maybe Spanish?

unironically hindi, easy and there is so much moneyto be made there.. and alot of people speak english there

Yes, but with caveats. Even a basic level of Chinese can be very valuable WHEN TIED with another skill. It makes a nice cherry on the cake.

HOWEVER to monetize Chinese by itself you have to be good. Like, very good. I have multiple certificates in Asian language proficiency at the highest levels, the kind that only a fraction of language learners have but I can tell you there's still fierce competition even for low-paid translation work.

Basically:
1) If you are good at something technical and useful to society, Chinese will be a nice bonus. They can send you over there and they'll know you can order your beer and dumplings and not get lost on the subway. To be less condescending, I will say that intermediate ability could also be useful in a business environment in terms of being less helpless and more "in the know" or whatever.

2) BUT if you want to just have a career in being good at Chinese you'd better be good. Like, really good. Like, 85%+ on every part of the HSK and perfectly fluent in conversation good. Otherwise you'll just be doing poorly-paid translation work forever, or just teaching English in China, kek (which is actually fine btw and probably one of the most laid-back jobs you can have not just in China but the world, but you don't need ANY Chinese skills for that).

Hold on let me see if I have that post from an user that did this and regretted it

Found it. Enjoy.

no, China and Chinese culture is nothing but a niche sub-cult to which no one wants to belong other than those who are greedy and want to make money and the Chinese themselves of course.
just because the sheer number of them is vast, it is not something anybody envies or wants to be a part of, hence the hate towards them. couple that with the fact that they hate us Westerners like the pest and they want to literally steal our wealth, ideas and anything they deem valuable and then you will soon realize that you should spend your time doing something else entirely.

Amusingly all of this is somewhat true. Chinese definitely trust foreigners who don't speak their language more not just because they can't talk about you freely in your presence but also because they will assume rightly or wrongly that if you speak Chinese very well it's quite likely that you are not as guileless and more like themselves, i.e. sneaky and slippery.

They will make the exact same assumptions Westerners make about fully well-adjusted Asian-Americans about you, just in the reverse.

thank you, gonna read that now

No
China is collapsing

You can say that about any minority except for like east asians and maybe arabs who just want to kill us outright so they can go back to fucking children and living in mud huts.

No. Learn something actually useful, like audio/video editing or 3d modeling.
t. retard who wasted 6 years of my life learning Mandarin only to move there for work and realize it's an absolute shithole

It's not about then trusting you, it's about you trusting them and your employer trusting you. Haven't you all read the posts by the guy who worked in China meeting a bunch of manufacturers? His point is that they will try to scam you at all times and you need to speak Mandarin yourself if you are to hear what they tell eachother in Mandarin. Also you don't have to rely on a translator that can be bribed for peanuts. If you plan on dealing in China you need to know Mandarin.

Based user has it. Read it if you haven't already. It's worth every sentence.

Most East Asian societies are as he and I described, and yes it is different from other cultures. It's hard to describe in a way that doesn't sound like some sort of Yas Forums cliché, but it is definitely the case that there is a strange mentality in these nations that can be best described as "hive minded."

There are a lot of things you hear about the way East Asians tick that initially or perhaps even for years seem like gross stereotypes and exaggerations, and then there you are 5 or 10 years later, realizing that what you read in 1980s guidebooks intended for boomer businessmen in Japan dealing with Le Oriental Cultural Shock was actually 99% right all along.

It took you 6 years to learn mandarin? I don't plan on moving to China, I just want to learn a new language and I thought that because 1.5 billion speak mandarin, it might come in handy one day

>learn mandarin

Depends what you mean by "learn." Obviously if you want to just basically function in society, make small talk, order at restaurants, hail cabs or whatever that can be done in a fairly short time. Pick the course of your choice and just do what anyone else does learning Spanish or French etc.

That's all nonwhites. The only difference between chinks and niggers/beaners is that they have a couple of brain cells to rub together.

>learn chinese
>they trust you less because of it
Wtf

You have to realize that East Asians see the average Westerner's behaviour and culture as more trustworthy in a way that's bad for us, good for them. Basically by learning their language you potentially undermine their collective PR, and you are probably less easy to exploit. Good for you, bad for them.

Their attitude towards foreigners learning their language(s) is usually different from that of people in other parts of the world because their worldview is different (everything is a zero-sum game for resources and prestige, everyone is out to get me so I have to get them first, etc.)

ill probably learn mandarin just to fuck hot chingchong ladies

These are the best languages to learn if you don't already know them at least try to know three.(the first three being significantly more powerful than the others) The wealth gained from any of them is significant:
English
Arabic
Mandarin
Spanish
French
Russian
Hebrew

I speak three languages fluently and two very badly.
English, Thai, Russian (cant read/write), Hebrew Chinese (both cant read/write). Knowing these has made me a shit ton of money for very little work and has got me laid as well as seeing the world. Learn languages!

What kind of work, user?

isnt mandarin like a small orange

in terms of opportunity
english>french>russian>spanish>random niche language like german>chinese

Mandarine oranges are so-called because they used to be the yellow colour of the official garments worn by some Chinese "mandarins" or officials.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mandarin_(bureaucrat)#History_and_use_of_the_term

The Mandarin dialect ( which used to be referred to as 官话 or "officials' speech") is so-called because is was the dialect of Chinese used by the officials/mandarins in Peking and increasingly elsewhere in the Empire.

sucking chinese communist dick.

Someone post the greentext of the user who is in steel acquisition and knows mandarin.

Boycotting the chinks is a good idea

Yup. It can fun to mess with their heads though.

oo that was a good read try someone find it
tldr dont do it chinese are fuckin crypto jews and cant be trusted

financial, no, but as a hobby sure

lel this

>Don't learn Chinese
>Can't understand anything they're saying

>Learn Chinese
>Can understand what they're saying
>Can't believe anything they're saying
>Realize you're not any better off than before

I’m not disputing that. My studies in Mandarin have largely been as a result of the whole “know your enemy” type of reasoning. I’m not saying don’t learn it, I’m saying once you know enough to understand don’t let anyone know that you understand.

Why would you want to learn an ugly language such as mandarin?

Learn:
Spanish
French
Portuguese
German
Russian
Or
Hindi

Not chink speak

Well, guess that settles it down.
Japanese as asian language is the way.

Except the Japanese have the concept of honour. They’ll still do everything they can to rip off a gaijin, but they’ll treat each other honourably. Chinese people are the Jews of Asia but without the brains.

listen bud if you wanna suck up to your masters, cut out the middleman, just learn hebrew right off the bat

I'm fluent in English & Russian and am conversational in Spanish. Should I try to perfect my spanish or learn Chinese? I have a cousin who did it and is fluent but she lived in China.

Or should I learn another language?

t. 21 years old

Japanese, better people and business opportunities.

Yes. Learning Mandarin, Spanish and Russian are all good business decisions.

But equally important if you are dealing with Chinese is to learn their culture and mentality as well.

>business opportunities.
Can you elaborate on this?

I'm pretty anti-Asian anyways, I just care where I can get more of a business advantage

based to infinity and beyond

This is good point. I already know lots of Russian Jews. I should learn Hebrew next.

Learn Cantonese not Mandarin!

Don’t learn chink. Chinks see it as a sign of weakness and loss of face
Get an interpreter if you have to

English > Mandarin > Russian
everything else is irrelevant and should go extinct in the next 2 centuries.

this is actually dead wrong, chinks literally worship foreigners who learn their language and praise their country.

lol fuck no.

Moonspeakfag here,
This. It's quite respected, in fact if you're really good, you're regarded as even more knowledgeable than they are about their ancient history, and you become a celebrity.
Look up the classical example of this, 大山, or dashan

most cantonese speakers speak mandarin

Or that tall black guy who speaks moonspeak fluently

Moses is his name I think

Second the part about Chinese being shitty .
