That's the thing with exponential growth, by it's very definition it's easy to underestimate in the early stages. As Italy is now experiencing, it won't take long until hospitals are getting creamed, wartime like triage is put into place, and death rates even due to other illness and injury start accelerating.
I fear it's too late for USA and UK to contain levels of spread and really do wish you folks all the best.

It's actually even less, swine flu, for example, is estimated to have infected 59m Americans, and killed 12k (0.02%), and is regarded as a rather bad influenza pandemic. Normal seasonal flu kills fuck-all, the numbers getting tossed around (60k/yr) are completed bullshit

The official rate of infected in Italy is 3% for people in their 20s while for 70s and 80s it's 20%.
Obviously most people who aren't pensioners have symptoms so mild they don't even realize they have it, so they don't even get tested.
It's most likely FAR more widespread than people realize and has a way lower mortality rate, like 0.2%.
