David Lynch is a great and criminally underrated musician. He is also a mediocre and criminally overrated film maker.

Cronenberg makes boring lifeless shit that people pretend to have deep subtext. David Lynch makes absolute art. His work can be hilarious, frightening, mysterious, whimsical, sensual, sexual, otherworldly, satirical, and so much more. Often in the same scene. Cronenberg has NO style and paperthin stories stretched out pretentiously. Even if you think Lynch is an art fag at least the man has style to burn.

I recently watched all of Cronenberg's films, seeing some for the first time. I think his concepts are brilliant and highly original and he is a great director. Still, I prefer Lynch. Cronenberg has only made a few films that I would consider to be great works (Crash, Videodrome, Eastern Promises) but Lynch's track record is nearly flawless.

Lynch is literally an open advocate for Trancendental meditation and makes films that aren't about anything (serving the devil with his talent). Cronenberg made Existenz which is gnostic but also asserts that Christ is a false-God. He also directed The Fly which is about how there's no God, and he stars in an actual pagan propaganda film by that piece of shit director of Hellraiser that I won't even bother to look up the name of.

AHoV is great but not as good as I had remembered it. The script is very pulpy and, apart from the plot which is very original, there are a lot of cliches throughout. I'm surprised Eastern Promises isn't as talked about. It's script is great and it has similar themes to AHoV but executes them in more clever and subtle ways.
