Why this trope exist? Does anyone found funny something getting humiliated?

Americans hate losers so much they would crucify them in public if they could.

As opposed to all those countries that love losers?

The purpose is to make the audience feel empathy towards the "weirdo"

>the does this thing that happens in reality get put into movies?

As opposed to countries that don't get off on your fellow suffering.

why did the internet used to be obsessed with this girl?

No such country.

>implying

she is cute and funny.

Go away, pedo.

that shit started in british comedy yo

Same genes.
Where do you think you are?

don't expect the shut ins on Yas Forums to understand empathy

Why are zoomers allowed to the internet? You shouldn't be here if you don't know the story.

Curb your enthusiasm
I know a lot of people like it, because he's funny, but I can't stand a humiliating protagonist.
A flawed protagonist is one thing, but humiliating is just constant cringe

OP here, I remember watching an anime that was pretty much this scene after scene. The main character had seriously social problems and no friends so each episode is she trying an "infallible plan" to get noticed/friends and she fails every time in the most embarrassing way and the anime still ends with her having zero friends. It was horrible, she always self-sabotages herself due her little grasp of social abilities and it's just sad and cringe (in an intentional way, not in a bad way). I read some reviews and one was a guy saying how that anime was one of the funniest shit he ever saw and this still bugs me so much.
You make a fine point, it comes to my mind a scene called "ass man" where Larry's wife asks him why he called a friend of her "big ass" or something and the situation turns into a slippery slope of Larry being a fetishist. It's embarrassing to him but not cringe. The humor of those Larry moments is the situation itself and not that he is being humiliated/embarrassed.

it starts with "c" and ends with "y"

the Germans have a word for it
schadenfreude

I felt this once, a girl that I liked received a "secret lover" card in the middle class by a herald and she just threw in the trash the second after it. I knew who did the card, I was with mah brother that also knew and we laughed our shit off. I even grabbed from the trash and maniacally laugh alone until I got home.

You live in a country than like losers?

Any Icelander anons here? What does your country think of this show? Isn't it like the most famous thing from Iceland?

>american reasoning

so do most European nations. and china. it's a good thing by the way

this is the worst stealth c thread I've ever seen

>characters are humiliated, broken and put down by others due to no fault of his own
>show then focuses on his shattered face

no, no please dont, i dont need this

That's why I hate the Office, Dinner for Schmucks, and anything else with Steve Carrell. He isn't funny. He's cringe. His sole brand of humor is being so awkwardly cringy that people mistake it for humor. He is a one-trick pony and cringe is his trick.

>bonus: it's supposed to be funny

are you so new you’ve never seen a reaction image? threads like this frequently used to hit bump limit without a single cunnyfag or moralfag trying to turn it into an off topic circle jerk
One of the things I like about Curb is that Larry is never embarrassed. He always manages to convince himself that the other party should be embarrassed even when he’s clearly in the wrong. Somehow it makes it feel less cringe.

Isn't that the entire basis of this show?
Another would be Fawlty Towers where Basil is constantly getting BTFO by his own schemes.
