I'm with you OP. Classic man was his usual compelling self, but DDL didn't impress because his character was such a soulless shit head. There wasn't much for even a great actor to work with. I've never understood the praise, people just like masculine period pieces I guess. In that category it's beneath last of the mohicans and even gangs of new york for me. If the whole movie centers around one character, I need that character to bring more to the table than le sociopathic industrialist.
