Fortunately this is true. There's a fuck ton of great stuff from the 80s and 90s, only obstacle is finding quality versions with subs.

Plus vhs boom helped lot. You could sell anything in vhs format and is sold like hot cakes. After that bubble bursted thinks started to slow down.
