Honestly the first two seasons were better by a significant margin, the whole feel and style has changed and gotten more procedural and poorly written.

Leofric was good for turning young Uhtred into a man and Finan has kept him on the straight and true.

Beocca trumps them all, however.
Shame the show skipped him being able to pull off an honest to God miracle even Uhtred has to question his beliefs.

It's definitely started to feel like "New Danish warlord shows up, Saxons do X, Uhtred gets in trouble, Danes pull a fast one on Saxons, Saxons get their shit kicked in, Uhtred fixes things. Roll next season."

The books definitely flow better in that regard, and I wish we had some way to have old Uhtred interject in the narrative every now and then.

and don't forget the ''Brida finds Uhtred in the battlefield, the two talk or kill someone and then they go separate ways'' at least now she got captured im still watching

Obviously Leofrich. They killed him too soon. Finan feel more like a lap dog where as Leofric was a foil as an ally.

I'm surprised how many people hate Aelswith. I really like her this season. It's been a long time since I saw season 3 so I can't really remember what she did then that caused people to hate her. Is it because she wanted Uhtred gone?

The Mercia plotline was pretty crap but the last few episodes were good.

He's actually gonna retake bubbleberg next season

Where the fuck was Hild the entire season? They didn't even show anybody reacting to Beocca's death. Does Aelswith even know? Does Edward? Does anybody outside of Uhtred's group even know that he died?

He's great as DC Des Hairihan

They did Steapa dirty.

Because she was an ungrateful bitch, always trying to screw with uhtred even after he saved her family like ten times
The quality of battles/fights has gone down a lot since S1 for sure

Sigtryggr is the best dane.

The actual filmography of the fights have gotten better I feel. It's the strategies that make me question things. The Mercia battle this season was probably the biggest thing they've done so far in the show in terms of scale.

Yeah I don't know about the technical aspects of filming, but the complete abandonment of tactics, Aethelflaed and Edward suddenly becoming badass frontline warriors etc makes it really goofy

We did see some good Aethelflaed nudity though

>takes a crack to the skull
>rejoins the battle anyway
Aethelred went out like a badass. F

I don't know what you mean by filmography, cinematography? It doesn't matter because the realistic tactical deployments and formations are fucked and gone.

>implying it was ever realistic
The Anglo-Saxon's never used rectangular shields, they used round ones. They also used spears for weapons since they were cheaper to make and had better reach.

kek

They really did

they had to do it for the general audience to follow, they make the individuals stand out to make them more identifiable than just a shield wall like earlier seasons

How did Uhtred get out from the baptism bathtub without everybody seeing his dick?

S03 was the best by far with skade and all that magic shit going down

Notice how S04/the netflix season is completely written by women whereas S03 was 80% male-written

viking sons of anarchy

It's a shame since they tried in the first season to explore scandinavian tactics, but only showed the boring shield wall and not the svinfylking which was pretty common.

what's the point?

It was getting obvious. The writing started to tend towards caricatures and stereotypes of characters. Every character just does and says the same things that they do and say over and over again. And of course the whole "wahh women are oppressed" dialogue doesn't really fit in those times because the social order of things is so different from now. I'm pretty sure they don't see things that way in those times. And of course they re-introduce the characters with a sex scene lmao. I don't even need to google the writers to know that it was written by women.

haha I see your point

Nah it's totally like that in the books, too. They're all great, but if you've read one you've read them all.

>Honestly the first two seasons were better by a significant margin, the whole feel and style has changed and gotten more procedural and poorly written.

The first season was written entirely by Stephen Butchard. The second and third had a couple of episodes written by other people. Season 4 has no Stephen Butchard writing anything and 7/10 episodes were written by women.
