In my opinion, Evangelion is just ok. Most of edgy plebeians think of this anime as some kind of top noch philosophical masterpiece, but it isnt.
Is fun to see the lack of understanding of the japanese about christian mithology, just like westeners made stupid ninja movies and they laugh.
Yes the imagery of the series is interesting but the psichological struggle of the MC is just repeatitive, and everytime it looks like he is overcoming his problems, they just throw a new ingredient that makes him back to square 1, again and again until the end.
Yes, family issues, clones and more excentric stuff. But those are just vanalities to show us how focused was his father about his job and not his family, like all the other characters.
This series is just that, vanality, superficial edginess and a nice visual strike.
