I don't know if it's the memes that resulted from this movie or the perspective that time and the Andrew Garfield movies provided, but I watched it recently and SM3 is actually way way better than I remembered it being.
Part of me thinks Raimi was sick of directing these movies though, so he decided to really pour on the Raimi to the point that he knew mainstream audiences wouldn't be able to handle it, to ensure they didn't keep asking him to do more.

He wasn't out of ideas, the kike Avi and Sony just forced him to put Venom in the flick, he didn't want to. His original storyboard is still out there, even the one for 4, and they're much better than what we got - which was still great.

it gets memed as a bad movie but it's not. it's not great...but it's not bad. it suffers from raimi being forced to shoehorn in venom. but there's enough good in the movie to still enjoy it, and it ends the trilogy on a happy note with MJ and spidey together.

It was because Sony force it to be. He originally was not planned to be in the movie, Raimi didn't want it because it would be too overcrowded and he wanted to dedicate a full film to Venom alone. Studio meddling fucked it all up, as usual.

The storyboard Raimi wanted to do was going to focus solely on sandman as the feeling. In terms of writing he was still the strongest part of 3. He must have fought hard for every bit of sandman development to daddy Avi Arad
