I've never seen this, I swear I've got an endless list of "classics" to work through because I was too young during the VHS era where everyone saw these movies.
In the information age there's too much to fucking watch. I'm still getting through The Sopranos too.

I have to wonder if the shot wasn't originally supposed to have a fish eye lens to emphasize the foreshortening.
But its fucking weird and has bugged me since the movie came out decades ago.

i think this is the same vfx house that did stop motion for the thing among others in the 80s too. their stuff always looked wonky, not sure what they were going for with the long ass arms

Verhoeven was going for comedy, did you miss the 30 second splat-fest near the beginning and the melting man near the end? It was supposed to be funny and look a little weird.

Robocop is so fucking good that they could've made him look like Gumby and it wouldn't matter. Actually the more I watch it, the more I realize I actually like his ridiculous arms.

robocop was never good you idiot, even back then it only had entertainment value as a trashy movie. you must be underage yourself if you seriously believe it's a good movie.

Sure there's a lot of gore but overall the movie is very wholesome and leaves you with a good feeling at the end (though that feeling is partially just Verhoeven having a laugh at the audience). The movie is about a man rediscovering his humanity that he has lost while living in a corporate hellhole and blowing away cartoon villains. The gore feels kind of like Loony Tunes mixed with a David Cronenberg movie, it's comedically exaggerated rather than realistic so it doesn't really gross me out.
