Candyman really isn't pozzed, though his backstory is the typical "innocent black guy fucks a white woman and gets killed" thing that liberals love, after he comes back as a spirit he isn't portrayed sympathetically at all. Most of his victims are black, and he kills innocents and steals babies, he's a monster through and through.

He has a very "tragic" backstory that portrays him as innocent, and it goes over the top in farewell to the flesh. Even in the first, it turns into a "that's what they deserve for killing an innocent black boi" territory. Also the child was fine.

Smart dramas don't sell, see Rome. GoT proved people will watch anything.

I haven't seen any of the sequels so I can't speak for them, but I never got a "that's what they deserve for killing an innocent black boi" vibe from the first one. The majority of his victims were from Cabrini Green, it was his fellow blacks he was terrorizing for the most part. The only reason he started to expand his influence was because the protagonist got too curious, otherwise he would be spending all his time haunting black people. Not only that but his obsession with the white female main character was supposed to be horrifying since he was a ghost focused on gaining what he had lost in life, the audience wasn't supposed to sympathize with him and the idea of an evil black man trying to capture and rape a white woman isn't something the left would push.

Aside from trying to force himself on the main character and his backstory he doesn't even seem to give a shit about race. All he wants to do is increase his infamy and power, he's just a monster who wants to expand his scope.

A remake was just announced two weeks ago too,I don't know what the fuck is going on but i like it.
