More importantly. What was the plant for food once they burned the whole earth and wiped out the other nations?

The less sex you have, the more tax you pay

Plunder the fuck out of the more prosperous Earth Kingdoms, makework cultural and military projects, rack up the debt and let future generations deal with it once you've genocided all rival factions. Dude was a veritable FDR.

it was obviously going to be a controlled burn which actually helps with plantlife fertility. Also he probably wasn't going to burn down fire nation territory

what was the deal with the earth kingdom anyway. It seemed like a normal kingdom, but then there was Bumi's city state type thing.

I don't get why they hyped this guy so much as being invincible during the comet, when he can only bend one element.

toph and bumi can only bend one element and they are formidable opponent

the change in quality between seasons 1 and 2/3 of ATLA is a drastic as the change in quality from seasons 1/4 to 5/8 of thrones.

Having just finished a re watch it struck again me how dramatic the improvement in quality was from season 1 to seasons 2 and 3. In my opinion the shift really happens with the blind bandit. After the blind bandit the show really picks up and with the exception of the serpent's pass pretty much every episode for the rest of book two is great. I still like season one of the show and it has some great moments (the storm is one of the great episodes on all of tv) but all together it feels like a lesser show to such a degree that I thing the change is as big or bigger then the demise of the thrones that the entire internet is now screaming about. If you put the great divide of the fortuneteller next to any episode in the second half of book two the difference is greater than insert the season 8 episode you hate the most vs seasons 1-4 of thrones.

it was more that his nation was gonna BTFO other nations because of the fire buff. Also his main opponent was a 13 year old

The Earthbender culture is actually split up into multiple kingdoms, most of which have already fallen to the Fire Nation by the start of the series and Ba Singh Sei being close to the last holdout due to Bumi's autistic levels of defensive preparation IIRC.

just guessing, but nick probably gave them way more money to work with for books 2 and 3. I know it was planned as a trilogy from the start, but nick definitely beefed up the funding once they saw the potential. Also I disagree with your assessment of season one. Sure the show doesn't have the depth and style of the later seasons, but you have to set the stage

Firebenders are so unbeilievably weak. All they produce is fire, and most of them only produce a flamethrower at best even less.

and the only other feature to being a fire bender, you could shoot lightning, and redirect it.

like thats it.

How am I supposed to believe they dominated the world, competing with earth fire and air?

earth can literally move the ground. how the fuck did they first not hear them, let alone just let the ground swallow them.
the rest of soldiers have a flamethrower in their arms

but fuck that.
waterbending

how fucking OP is water?
- bending 10 tonnes of matter easily.
- can manipulate ice
- can propel water/ice at insane speed
- can make water arms, or ice bulets, or water/ice blades. limit is my imagination. ice is literally water rock, making me a earthbender. water is literally a fluid like air, making me an airbender. everything has water, so I can also mudbend.
- can literally heal wounds and diagnose myself for injury
- can also sever a persons chi, to remove their bending forever
- can spirit bend bad energy into good energy
- motherfuckin blood bending, everyone is my puppet

unbeilevable.

i understand airbending, because theys a bunch of pussies, but not one person fought back? not one person felt vengeful when they were literally holocausted.

look at the potential of air, that zaheer who was the only chad airbender ever accomplished in 1 season:
- flight
- suffocation without touching them, with the most abundant fluid on earth
imagine someone so skilled that they can move columns of it. or change the pressure of it, or create fake sounds by manipulating it. they could create heat, explosions, implode someones organs, turn them unconcious, blast them from the inside, hit them with a shot of pressure that would blast them, burst their eardrums making them deaf.
using the air to slice people
drowning them in high pressure
keeping a posionous gas that you could air bend to kill someone nearby

retarded premise

I always assumed that the Fire Nation would enslave the other nations.

Why didn't they just get an earthbender near him and sink him into the ground. Aang being the only one who could defeat him was bullshit.

YOU'RE WEAK
YOUR PEOPLE ARE WEAK
THEY DIDN'T DESERVE TO LIVE IN THIS WORLD
IN MY WORLD
YOU
WILL
DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I thought the idea was to genocide all of them eventually so the Avatar would always be fire nation. Isn't that why they wiped out the air nomads because they knew the Avatar was in the air nation?

Probably a lot like actual Medieval/Ancient China. Local polities and kingdoms are integrated as "provinces" but in reality actually more or less run themselves as long as they keep records and pay taxes. Probably had tons of petty kings, dukes, etc. Plus the EK was so huge that a lot of those places probably just escaped notice or were too marginal to matter. That town that hated the Avatar had its own government descended from Chin the Conqueror iirc, but they were so tiny and shitty that it probably didn't matter that they celebrated their long-dead empire instead of the Earth Kingdom itself. Plus, it's not like the Earth King had any actual political influence and the Dai Li seemed like they were more or less content to run Ba Sing Se without really worrying about the outside world. In fact, probably a big reason that the Earth Kingdom lost so much despite its size and population advantage was that it was united in name only, and never coordinated well enough to actually push back against the Fire Nation. It seems like a lot of the Fire Nation technological advantage didn't really come to fruition until the last few years of a 100 year long war anyway, so it probably wasn't just because of the tech disparity.

Mark Hamill fucking killed it as Ozai. I can't imagine them doing the character justice in live action unless they cast him.

Firebenders were implied to control volcanos and lava in TLAB. I know they showed Roku doing it--then TLOK made it earthbender exclusive.

How exactly were like 8 airships gonna burn down an entire continent in a few hours?

Don't claim it, don't shame it

they weren't going to, they mostly just wanted to kill as much people as possible + make aang show himself

by the last episode the fire nation pretty much had won the war by taking ba sing se

It's a shoot at the mast/shoot at the crew type situation.

In the Napoleonic wars, the French navy's doctrine was to aim their guns at the rigging on the enemy ships, attempting to cripple enemy ships as quickly as possible. The British navy's practice, on the other hand, was to aim for the deck and attempt to kill as much enemy crew as possible. In theory the French tactic should have been better, since it doesn't fucking matter how much crew you have if your ship is crippled and drifting, you can't even point your cannons. In practice, the British annihilated the French navy (which actually had better designed ships on average) because their brutal tactics wreaked havoc on French morale and ability to keep order.

In theory, an Earth Bender should be the deadliest motherfucker on earth. They're virtually always going to have as much of their element around them as they want. They have readymade long-range artillery, they can create ramparts/fortifications at a moment's notice, and if they don't feel like playing fair they can just bury a motherfucker. In practice, the Fire Nation butchered them because their warriors were way more intense and focused and it's hard to think clearly when motherfuckers are coming at you shooting fireballs and igniting the air in front of your fucking face.

I don't think it's just the quality but the tone. It goes from a fun kids show to like an actual drama midway through season two.

Ba sing se nor Omashu fell in a hundred years, the earthbenders were doing relatively alright until pretty recently after Azula joined the fray

The northern water tribe was also doing pretty alright

Is katara and dragon prince examples of how lightning only strikes once for creative brilliance?

>katara
i assume you meant Korra, but that was an example of shitting on your legacy to make a new series that ended up being shit anyway, kind of like nu Star Wars

Dragon Prince is just mediocre with more gay relationships because Netflix, but it's still not as offensively bad as Korra

>15 years and nothing even comes close
>all things considered SU is the one that comes the closes
>still fucking diarreah

The average earth bender could just throw rocks, not move the ground
