Holy shit, way to fuck up adapting this. The line works best in the written version because thats where the story ends and lets the reader imagine something worse, actually showing it (probably with some shitty stock "horror" violins) completely kills it.

yeah that could work, or else you have to remove that "people can lick too" part completely and when the kid initially puts their hand down, we see in a close up shot a human mouth slowly open and lick the childs hand, with a low, spooky audio sting. This would create dramatic irony, which is actually something that does work in a visual medium.
