That was part of the point the films make. David Webb was robbed of his youth and innocence and was turned into Bourne, the shell of a man who can't fit into society anymore. Much like how the US treats its soldiers and sends young men to fight in endless overseas conflicts.
And if you wanted Craig, you could just watch the current Bond films. They borrow heavily from the Bourne franchise.

I really wish they established Ethan as more of a tech operative than an action star. Ving Rhames' character was apparently more of a pencil pusher originally as well. When I saw M:I 2 it was disappointed because I thought Hunt was more of a Dilbert type of character, as funny as that sounds...
