This show was actually pretty revolutionary for me. When it started - or at least when it aired in my country - it was the first mainsteram show of this type where I felt I was pretty much the opposite of the target audience. Previously I had enjoyed talkshows like Letterman, Conan, Graham Norton or local shows, but this one just felt so distant for me.
It's like, everything about it was extremely foreign. I hated every single aspect of this show, from its set to the humor, the band, the sidekick and especially the host. I never felt this way before, not even when watching children's shows.

No talk show hosts are funny. It’s all political propaganda now.

It is really sad. Johnny Carson was actually a fantastic host who would mock his own guests in a charming way. Letterman started out pretty clever, but fell into being a grumpy old cunt who didn't care. Everyone since has been absolute shit.

Whenever I catch some fragments on YT of American hosts, I have no desire to continue and watch the whole show due to the off-putting format and hosts' behavior. If there's something worthwhile it's mostly due to the guests themselves. Norton, on the other hand, remembers he's an entertainer.

the real reason Norton is more watchable is because UK TV can't use the near-constant ad breaks of US network TV as a crutch. US TV can consist of barely-viable bitesize chunks of content, while Norton has to try to actually hold the audience's attention.
