Why won't HBO resurrect Tales from the Crypt?
Why won't HBO resurrect Tales from the Crypt?

I'd rather them not. It would likely be woke as fuck, and have a fraction of the original's soul and charm.
these stories were fun in a campy way, but none of them were actually scary. I've never watched an episodic horror series that was actually scary.
you're probably right
lol, a woke crypt keeper would be funny af tho
it might actually work
The intro scared the shit out of me, but a lot of that had to do with me being like 5 when I first started watching it.
dude same. it was fucked up cause I always wanted to watch the show cause i knew it could show titties, but I would run and hide just from hearing the music to the intro. I wonder why that shit was so scary
>I wonder why that shit was so scary
cause it wasn't like a horror show, the crypt keeper is like a comedic character. but somehow that shit scared me more than actual scary movies when i was a kid.
Does HBO even have the rights to the show anymore? It's not on any HBO streaming. I think FOX (now Disney?) owns the entire series?
because jordan peele remade the twilight zone and ruined any chance of a decent horror anthology series again
How about putting them out on Bluray first?
All of it scared me. My cousin was baby sitting me one evening and he forced me to watch the intro after I told him I hated it. I had nightmares for like a month.
Tales from the Crypt Holdings owns the rights
it's in copyright hell, like Fallout until the holder went bankrupt in the late 2000s
also why there's no Bluray or proper DVD box set, and why it's not on HBO's back catalog streaming service
Is it streaming anywhere? If not, why not? This show was gold.
>or proper DVD box set
There's a complete series box set.
It’s on YouTube... or was.
fmovies(dot)to
>Zombie would be black
>All the heroes would be womyn
True
i just want the crypt keeper commenting on the end of an episode like
>that wouldn't have happened to him if the shitlord respected xer pronouns!
>tales from the crypt
>heroes
did we watch the same show?
I grew up watching this in the 80s. I own the box set. If you want more check out Masters of Horror if you have not already, its very similar to Tales from the crypt, had many good episodes. Anyone remember the other one from the 90s? It was more of a science fiction series, not outter limits. i believe it was on cinemax or showtime and the opening scene had a kernal popcorn with the universe or something like that.
yes, i liked that one more than tales of the crypt cause it also had titties but wasn't scary.
The Tim Curry episode is still on YouTube, tits and everything
>It was more of a science fiction series, not outter limits.
Perversions of Science?
It was solid but the host lacked charm
And if I recall it was released on DVD but only in Japan
I do not trust anyone to remake Tales From the Crypt today. It was a product of its time and developed within a perfect storm of hot Hollywood producers casting stars and directors of the day, the past, and tomorrow in recreations of horror comics being revisited both out of 1950s nostalgia and as a symbol of freedom of speech in the form of fun, entertaining, tongue-in-cheek 1980s horror with top notch practical effects, set design, makeup, etc and was the perfection of the anthology series which flounders in theaters but flourished on television then (consider Body Bags, Creepshow, and Tales from the Darkside versus The Outer Limits, Amazing Stories, and The Twilight Zone). About the only common factor is that HBO, the Netflix of that time, is still around and has remained a brand recognized for quality.
The 1980s were nostalgic about the 1950s and one of the byproducts was 1950s horror comics being revisited - consider the existence of the Creepshow movies. The 1980s was also a golden age of horror which was more often about delivering a fun and entertaining show than being grave. Tales was created by some of the hottest producers in Hollywood at the time as well and they were able to cast current stars, stars of the past, and many stars who yet to rise episode after episode. Finally, Tales From the Crypt had a distinctly Generation X vibe to it
masters of horror is the closest thing we are going to get for tales from the crypt. i would say there are better episodes in masters of horror than there are tales from the crypt, then again tales from the crypt had way more seasons. it got really shitty near the end but i still enjoyed it.
Yes that's it. Thanks
I wish MoH was better. The concept was goddamn rock solid but if each episode is supposed to be like a mini-movie they should have been more cinematic. They were television shows on every level - script, direction, production values, acting, etc.
I thought TNT was going to reboot it with M Knight Shamaalama. Did that not happen?
On a related note, wasn't there an episode with Paul Giamatti where he kills some band manager lady and it's basically a retelling of EAP''s The Tell-Tale Heart? It isn't listed in his imdb credits but I swear it was him. It had something to do with rock bands and they're playing at a concert and he's freaking out because he keeps hearing her, and he throws his head out the window and screams "I KILLED HER" right as the sound cuts out and everyone hears him. Hard to remember since I saw it when I was a kid like 20 years ago.
Demon Night and Bordello of Blood are amazing movies
