Fuck it, Wheel of Time thread. No new official updates in forever, but apparently all episodes besides the last two have finished filming and they are doing post production on them and already started writing S2.
Fuck it, Wheel of Time thread. No new official updates in forever...
Thank you all for coming.
it's gonna be shit who cares
why are all my white boy hick characters now black or browned
So I'm only 3 books in and I don't see how this succeeds in anyway. Its a decent series so far but its just a lot less interesting than the Black Company/Malazan/GoT just from a setting/character perspective. I'm enjoying it and gonna finish but WHY this series over The Black Company? There has to be some other fantasy series they could have adapted if they didn't think they could translate the comic relief aspect of it, maybe Mistborn? Who fucking knows.
It came out before those books? I dunno. I feel like Malazan is more indepth and black company is just disjointed and weird as fuck. I only got up to book 8 in Black Company and started caring less and less for the characters.
If we make it to dumai's wells I'll be happy
This, but only if they do it justice. If they somehow manage to ruin "kneel or you will be knelt" there's no fucking point to adapt it at all.
Lets try that again
Because the writers don't understand the source material. Them coming from a place that's been isolated for 1000 years with very few outsiders is fairly important for plot and character reasons. Make them whatever race, but they should all be the same race.
To show how little they understand it, they're rewriting bits of it because they think "the women have it too hard". Also Rand won't get his 3 wives
The books are more approachable than either LOTR or Malazan (which is also unfilmable due to the insanely huge cast) and it gets massively epic. You're only on book three, I can't remember if that's before or after the long painful tribal section, after which the story really kicks into gear and Mat becomes the best character.
The world is very well realized. The battle scenes are really good, with effort put in to make them use realistic tactics. They even talk about the Dragon Reborn's tax policy.
it has some big flaws: The writing is often young adult fiction level when it comes to the romance, except when it isn't (characters that blush thinking about holding hands have a magical foursome where they all experience each other's orgasms) , the big cities where you travel between a lot kinda all blend together and the writer had some weird views on feminism and strong women (almost every woman in the series is some degree of abusive towards men, especially their loves ones) and is kinda blase about live long servitude.
mistborn isnt nearly as good as stormlight
I love black company and Books of South is in my top five, but WoT is kino too
I have a horrible feeling that they're going to downplay most of the times where the Aes Sedai get BTFO, especially by men. Without the moments of karma and humility, you'll end up with a series where half the cast are unlikeable.
The chances of us getting Mat spanking an Aes Sedai for not listening to him is next to nil
I kinda liked mistborn but it suffered from being a world that didn't feel real. Also the "one big twist per book" thing got old.
it was a good read but just doesn't have the substance his other work does
That's honestly a big potential pitfall. The Aes Sedai are supposed to represent arrogance and hubris and you get several other factions of female channelers who do a better job. Then again Rafe said his idea of the gender politics is more about balance instead of one being better than the other so there's a slight chance he actually gets it.
This should be a Disney property.
Is there no end to your hunger, Mouse?
Dude look at the logo, they want it to be the mouse. Hunger has nothing to do with it.
>and gonna finish
if you aren't totally committed to the characters, stop now. the only interesting stuff happens in the first three and last three books, and the last three are a fucking mess because they were written by a different author who failed to grasp the tone of the books
Rafe has said Egwene is his favorite character. This is a huge red flag for me. Anyway, I'm pretty sure he has to be a puppet for the Amazon studio. Why would you give such an immense project to someone with no experience? This will be Game of Thrones all over again but it'll be trash from the beginning.
It will be like the witcher all over again
>there's magic and swordfighting in these books? ok, let's gloss over all the character development stuff that made it relevant for people above the age of 8 so we can just deliver pure schlock and "excitement"
>Why would you give such an immense project to someone with no experience?
Apparently Rafe contacted them himself so that no one else could get to it before him. He really thinks he's the best one for the job.
>first 3
The best book in the series is book 4
As skeptical as I am of Rafe, I do think he cares about the series. I’d rather have that then some corporate drone who doesn’t care about WoT beyond a paycheck.
I think he cares about it too, but what I'm worried about is whether he actually GETS it or not.
How much do you get paid to post these threads?
>Would you please fund my adaptation of WoT?
>Yes, I absolutely know what I am doing.
>trips of truth
Having Egwene be his favorite character is a big red flag. While the casting was retarded from a lore perspective, I don’t hate any of the choices (well, maybe Egwene). His talk of balance of the genders makes me hopeful that he gets it.
There’s just so much to WoT that he’s gonna have to cut a lot. I’m worried most about what he chooses to cut and what he keeps.
Book 4 is when WoT starts becoming too bloated and disorganized. In the first 3, it's focused. You can make plenty of crticisms of the first 3 books, and I do because there's so much heinously wrong with them, especially in how repetitive they are, but books 4 and on seem really pointless honestly.
>Them coming from a place that's been isolated for 1000 years with very few outsiders is fairly important for plot and character reasons.
Hmmm not really. And there's no reason the people of other races couldn't have arrived a thousand years ago or something. Racial homogenity isn't vital to the plot, though isolation I guess kinda is?
>they're rewriting bits of it because they think "the women have it too hard"
lol. The women in the WoT series for probably 80% of the entire series are all ballbusting, catty, dominatrix bitches that pull men around by their dicks. What the fuck are they talking about? Even the fucking ripped blacksmith of the village supposedly has a wife who is even more surly and ripped than he is. Robert Jordan was obsessed with femdom pornography and lesbianism. It's littered throughout his novels.
>Rafe has said Egwene is his favorite character. This is a huge red flag for me.
Me too because she's quite clearly a flagrant Mary Sue and probably my most hated character in all of fiction. She's so unbelievably fortuitous and unrealistically deferred to that it genuinely ruins the plot. How many times over the course of the books does Egwene blatantly disrespect some more experienced, wiser elder of hers or break their rules or insult them only for them to ruefully smile about how charming and stubborn and great she is and let her get away with it? Her entire character arc to power is just this over and over and over again. They really don't even have a good reason to put her in power like they do, it just seems made up and dumb.
djoulf o trsf the firdt book ou whaydes sesd ewrg
You should read the first book, yes.
abandon all hope
i want it to succeed, but lets be realistic, it should have been done 20 years ago before current political agendas
