at least for me, being a total comedy casual and a generally not funny person myself, Norm is funny because a good majority of his humor is implication and nuance, but the kind makes the other person have to be the "fool" and norm the "slightly less foolish fool", it's kinda hard to articulate but on the whole what makes me laugh most about his comedy is how hard he will always try to sell a bit or setup like it's not a bit, commit to it, then let the other person carry the rest of it.

If you ever think you've heard him "tell a long story with no punchline", the joke's on you.
In that clip he is relentlessly ripping on the event, the talent ("ALL the stars are out!") and even the hosts, right to their face, while they laugh nervously because while they don't get the joke, they are pathetic spineless leeches who would never "bully" an old comedian and instead sit in reverence of him, even if they don't understand it.

I agree with everything except his timing being bad. His timing makes a lot of his jokes.

His buildup leads you in one direction, then he throws in some absurd twist. In his interviews he'll lead the people he's talking to into expressing a particular point of view, then feign outrage at it. He's basically a master at manipulating people. If he lacked a conscience he'd either be ridiculously wealthy or a prolific serial killer.

Norm is living proof that the industry is corrupt and the truly talented cannot keep work while the charlatans and the thieves thrive. This is why he has become disillusioned.
