Downey is done. He made more money than he could possibly spend, he's too old to keep playing with prop guns and he absolutely hates the character.
So why is he the only one of the big three that wanted to continue on in the MCU?

Forever really as an AI all he has to do is voice act maybe a hologram appearance with the Tron de-aging tech Disney has laying around. If he wanted to stsy on board the writers could make it work, he would almost assuredly have to take a pay cut though
