I think this may simply be because western devs are, for some fucking bullshit reason, obsessed with making watch-alongs instead of actual video games

They want to produce something that they think could pass as "art" or has some "deep, profound" thing to say about the human condition or whatever pretentious goal it is they have. In order to do this, they think it means making their protagonist extremely bland and non-conforming to previous design philosophies in an attempt to invoke "realism".

The West being cucked is definitely a factor, but could it be argued that the west BECAME cucked because of thought processes like these taking place in the minds of pretentious assholes working in video games?

I enjoy having something I can look to at my shelf and choose from when I'm bored. Popping the disc out of the case is satisfying and I love the smell of new game boxes.

I've got full series collections of franchises I love to death and it would be a bummer if I stopped collecting those franchises physically and moved to digital. That collection on my shelf wouldn't feel complete
