I was watching the screen the whole time and I genuinely didn't see a dog. How does it even make sense? Carrying his wife with him for 10 years would make sense (guilty conscious wanting to be caught) as he said he was mad nobody came for him so it's like his actions didn't matter

He never mentions having a dog. The title makes more sense but outside of subtle references of him looking at the dogs in cages etc I really thought it was his wife he finally buried since again I didn't see what was in the blanket

Chasing down the car so he could put his dog to rest is.....complicated
It's sort of like the first Rocky where he isn't trying to win, just trying to go the distance so he can prove to himself he wouldn't take a fall for once in his life
In Rover honoring his dog is the one last shred of human decency he is clinging to
He has let down everyone in his life and everyone in his life has let him down as society slowly collapses around him
Giving his dog a decent burial is where he draws the line and he goes berserk trying to hold that line
Along the way he meets Pattinson who has also been let down by everyone in his life and who offers a doglike loyalty in return for companionship, and exhibits a casual willingness to become hyper violent in defense of this bond
Very complex movie and you don't get all the pieces of the puzzle until the very end
