Best character?
Billy bones ofcourse, although i did love what they did with jon silver how they changed his character from a coward into a man willing to give everything for his crew.
Compared to other shows that pick a certain group of people like with vikings or peaky blinders. I think black sails does it the best with pirates.
Thoughts?
I also think that black sails has an extra element in it that makes it stand above the shows i mentioned. The way they show how men with social power can sway others into their plans is a what gives the show a second layer. its not just about the pirates and their struggles but also about how they are able to achieve those goals.

He used to be part of a pretty well educated family but i agree, the guns he has are insane. Billy gaines would have bin a better name for him.

Do you agree he's one of the best characters? it does suck that he switches sides at the end but his reason is totally understandable.
Season 2 is when everything started to come together. Silver becoming an important voice in the crew, vane and flint working together.
Billy is cool but Jon Silver was a lot more memorable for me.

they way John Silver changed from a coward into a real man that would do anything for his crew was very well done. But after watching it a second time i just like how Billy decided to take matters into his own hands whilst never betraying his comrades well until the end at least.
Unironically in my Top 10 series. It's a miracle that a pirate show came out this good, and then AC4 came out. Plus PotC, I'm satisfied enough with my piratekino.

Billy is bound by the rules of 'Treasure Island' probably more than any other character. Flint, Silver, and Billy are probably the best characters but there's a lot of good ones.

rackham with the S1 mullet and pimp shades. they did billy dirty in the last season. i mean they did all the characters dirty at one time or another but they straight up shafted him.

Rackham was great as well, almost all mayor characters were very well done. well expect for max and elaenors father.

Rackham was incredible. His conversations with Rogers are some of my favourite bits of television ever.

thats why i compare it to those shows, in a way they are similar because they create a show around those archetypes. What sets Black sails apart from those shows is that is has another element in it that makes it more interesting.
Absolutely, I love the shoe to death even though I had a hard time getting into the first few episodes. Stick with it.

Depends on what you like but i'd say it is. But you do need to watch it till season 2. Season 1 is alright but it struggles to make the characters and the story more interesting then just another pirate flick.
Fuck Eleanor. Worst character by far. Her introductory scene is one of the worst things, most cringeworthy things I’ve ever seen. Max was fine, though the dynamic with Anne and rackham got a little tiresome in season 2. It improved massively from then on though,
i know saying anne bonny was the best female character on the show isn't saying much since the rest were shit but she was great in her own right. the scene where she kills the dude in the hold with the shard of glass was impressive without feeling like some pandering girlboss shit since she got fucked up in the process. one of the best scenes of the whole series.
