Communism has works of art which are by people who disliked the regime. It's art born from oppression and resistance. Look at Tarkovsky's career. Officials put him through bureaucratic grinder so he could make his films. His son said Tarkovsky could make a film per year but the officials were stalling him on purpose. They also banned some films from Eisenstein and Tarkovsky. Communism was bad.

Being completely objective all his films don't have a great technical quality and visually quite poor beside being fantastic. I think this is a reflection on communism, they simply didnt have enough money to produce something that looks good. Compare it to Hollywood films of the same era and they're vastly better quality.
