What did you think of Alien 3?
What did you think of Alien 3?
I always think about how Yas Forums would have reacted to it if it was around in the 90's. It probably would've been similar to the amount of threads we got during the infamous "sweating black stormtrooper" reveal from the very first Force Awakens trailer.
My third favorite alien movie oddly enough, but wow they managed to get a woman to shave her fucking head? It's alright for us mbp guys who don't have the luxury of the choice on the matter, we take that for granted sometimes but for women, hair is a sacred garment
Good acting, cozy and scary
Well you can always check google groups and find out
Might rewatch tonight, in every way that really matters Aliens is a better movie but I enjoy Alien 3 more
If Alien is a gourmet burger and Aliens is a really good fast food burger, Alien 3 is like a store bought burger you make at home with some old condiments from the back of the fridge and some defrosted buns, in an objective sense it's the worst of the three but you get to enjoy it in your own home and it's just easy and nice and doesn't deserve the hate it gets
It has some good moments, but overall it's pretty stupid and even basic shit like how did both ripley and dog get facehugged when only 1 egg was on bard doesn't make sense.
A not-terrible idea (go back to pure horror instead of another bug hunt movie) hamstrung by poor decision making across the board.
>They could have done the same basic premise without killing off Newt and Hicks right from the get-go and pissing off pretty much everyone
>they could have picked an actually interesting alien planet from the endless possibilities instead of a bunch of drab exteriors that might as well be any random prison on earth
>they could have let Fincher make the movie his way since it turns out he's actually really fucking good and the dailies would have shown it, or maybe don't hire someone you feel you have to micromanage in the first place
All in all it's more okay than terrible, with the assembly cut almost being good. Fuck the autists who are trying to meme it into being underrated, though. It's 3rd place at best, even its director doesn't like it.
>They could have done the same basic premise without killing off Newt and Hicks right from the get-go and pissing off pretty much everyone
Wasn't there a comic where they survive the crash only to die 5 minutes later anyway?
They had to reshoot some scenes after Ripley's hair grew back, she told them to fuck off and she wasn't going to shave again. They spent £14k on a special skull cap to hide her hair.
Ripley giving birth to another Xenomorph via chestbursting would've been a way betting ending and death than her throwing herself into the vat of molten steel.
>even its director doesn't like it
Stop saying stupid shit like this
The assembly cut shows it was basically some magic superfacehugger that could implant 2 embryos. Apparently it could magically conjure up eggs in parts of spaceship no alien queen ever visited too.
Is the Assembly Cut really that much better? Or is it basically a meme at this point?
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand it's a food analogyyyy yayyy
After watching it many times, I begin to love it more. The atmosphere and music is unmatched. And once you learn who all the side characters are it builds more interest since you can tell them apart.
It was stupid, only one attempted gang rape scene? The movie should of been 90% rape to be believable
It's grown on me a lot over the years. Definitely flawed, but at the risk of sounding contrarian I might even like it more than Aliens.
Very good, mainly because of the fantastic British cast and Sigourney Weaver.
Absolutely correct opinion. It has always been 1 > 3 > 2
love it
Alright guys, let's settle this. What was better, the alien coming out of the dog or out of the ox?
Obviously for its size it made more sense to come out of the ox for me, but the dog version just felt so much more gruesome.
Alien - 9/10
Aliens - 9/10
Alien 3 - 7.5/10
Resurrection - 6/10
Alien Isolation - 8/10
Dog definitely had a bigger impact on me so I vote that
The dog, as you say more gruesome. Dog was alive and suffered, the ox was dead. Also the ox had the stupid CGI alien.
>Alien - 9/10
>Aliens - 10/10
>Alien 3 - 2/10
>Resurrection - 1/10
>Alien Isolation - 5/10
>Also the ox had the stupid CGI alien.
Did it? I remember the alien was mostly a rod-puppet.
It's kinda bad, not the worst alien movie though. There's a great movie hidden in there somewhere
They never finished the effects for the ox scene when it was cut. When they made the assembly cut and swapped the scenes they added some shitty CGI alien running away accompanied by a very lazily added newborn baby's cry.
it's the movie that makes me realize i care more about "film texture" than about plot or characters, i just love the way it looks and feels far more than 1 and 2
I just find it not very interesting. Alien and Alien Resurrection are my preferred ones, though resurrection is a bit all over the place it still looks awesome.
It's the product of having too many cooks in the kitchen.
Worst was resurrection. The AVP films, Prometheshit and covenshat don't count. Resurrection killed the franchise.
Alien 9/10
Aliens 10/10
Alien 3 4/10
Alien 3 Assembly Cut 7/10
Resurrection 2/10
Prometheus 7/10
Covenant 6/10
The worst part of the movie was the special effect of the alien running. Looked fucking horrible. Otherwise it was kino.
YOU JUST KNOW
Worse than first two, but still good. I like how it ends but I don't like how it kills off Newt and Hicks in the opening credits
>David Fincher eventually disowned the film later on stating in an interview with The Guardian in 2009 that "No one hated it more than me; to this day, no one hates it more than me."
The movie should have been Ripley and the Xenomorph joining forces and fighting an even bigger alien
The setting was good, but the editing and special effects during the climax are god awful and ruin the movie for me. One time I watched it with a large group of friends and when the CGI xeno ran on the ceiling we lost out shit.
>Resurrection 1/10
It's like you hate fun. 4 is a bit stupid but it's also fucking great at the same time
Didn't like Hicks, Newt, and Bishop effectively dying offscreen, but it was solid otherwise. Dutton and Dance were spectacular, and Postlethwaite is always great. Also had a good story arc that linked with Ripley and gave it all good closure. Good suspense and atmosphere, great acting, generally underrated film all in all.
I didn't say it was untrue, I said it was stupid
>dude the person who went through hell to make it doesn't like it that means it's BAD
Of course he doesn't fucking like it, it was an awful production and he was stressed to hell the entire time and was always going to despise the finished product
Fincher's opinion on Alien 3 is as worthless as Lynch's opinion of Dune 1984, he was far too close to it to be able to judge the thing fairly
>After Miramax boss Bob Weinstein saw early footage (of Mimic), there were fights between him and del Toro regarding the tone, with Weinstein claiming the film was not scary enough.[10] It has been reported that one day Weinstein was so infuriated with del Toro that he stormed onto the Toronto set and attempted to instruct del Toro on "how to direct a movie."[10] Weinstein would eventually try to get del Toro fired.[10] Following an intervention from lead actress Mira Sorvino, Weinstein backed down, and principal photography would be completed with del Toro as director in early 1997.[10] However, Weinstein still insisted on having control over the final cut.[10] Producer B.J. Rack later compared making the film to "being a prisoner of [a] war camp",[10] while del Toro stated in 2018 "The only time I have experienced bad behaviour, and It remains one of the worst experiences of my life, was in 1997, when I did Mimic for Miramax. It was a horrible, horrible, horrible experience."[11]
many such cases!
