What was this guy's fucking problem?
What was this guy's fucking problem?
Being too based
Pretty much this. He was a competent god amongst incompetent stooges. So what if all three of his children disappointed him? They should have known better.
His shitty children pretty much did everything they could to destroy the legacy of house Lannister. Any attempt he made to reign them in just made them even shittier.
He was based out of control.
he was an insecure hypocrite who failed miserably
knew he could only trust himself but he is just one man.
dangerously based
His problem was that he was just one of two good villains in the entire series, and he was unable to carry the story.
The showrunners had to kill him off without having any good new characters/actors to replace him. Oh wait, no. That was the show's problem.
the other being joffrey, rrrright?
>dangerously based
Surrounded by fools
He didn't think through his fiscal policy. Basing Lannister wealth on specie currency alone insured financial ruin in the long run not just for the Westerlands but for all the 7 Kingdoms, and trying to curry favor with the crown by repeatedly lending them money even though it was obvious Robert was never going to be able to repay those debnts ultimately left Westeros open to foreign intervention from the (((Iron Bank))) and its many mercenary assets.
>open to foreign intervention from the (((Iron Bank)))
Until King Robert is persuaded to just smash Bravos, and Casterly Rock becomes the world's bank.
Unironically because his waifu died giving birth to his aberrant son.
But what was his tax policy?
>villain
Depleting his goldmines. With no survivors
You'd be mad if dinklage was your kid.
Pretty silly plot hole. He should have been tiny enough to walk out standing straight.
His goal was to take over 4 of the 7 kingdoms
And he wouldve if his children cooperated
>tyrion gets the north trough sansa
>cersei gets the reach trough ser fag
>westerlands are lannister already
>crownlands are rules by lannisters by proxy
No need for gold mines when you control that much shit
>Tyrion
>Getting shit
Nigga, he was legally a bastard and he was fucking hated due to his mother dying due to his birth.
He was being married off to sansa
Thus tywin gains the north trough tyrion
Jaime fucked everything by simping Cersei
He subconsciously couldn’t handle that his midget son who killed the love of his life (even though he was blameless) was the most like him of all his children.
You couldn't take Braavos. The Lannister fleet isn't that great, the Greyjoys are dubious allies at best, no other Great House would support this venture. Tywin's ambitious but he's not foolhardy.
Overly convoluted and inefficient feudal tithing like the rest of Westeros (3/8 a bushel of this, 5/9th a kern of that)
Upsetting the delicate balance of power like that would lead the rest of Westeros and the minor vassals of the Great Houses to rise up against the Lannisters. That's why Tywin was Aerys's Hand and didn't just take the crown for himself.
He raised his children wrong
>What was this guy's fucking problem?
His family.
Tyrion "killed" his wife and is a philandering drunkard. Cersei keeps overestimating herself and fucking things up just to spite or impress. Jaime can only think with his dick.
The extended family is not up to par either.
He was a great tactician and strategist who knew how to play the game, but he had no idea on how to raise a family. He raised his kids like he was playing Crusader Kings II, sure it would be good for the dynasty if they were of the same mind as him and played along but people's emotions don't work that way.
The Lannister fleet can be built, the Greyjoys might not be great allies, but he chance to loot the free cities would speak to a lot of their vassals. Everyone's debt gets reset would bring in some great house support as well. Robert was good at garnering support anyways. I'm not say it's a slam dunk, but if Robert had set his mind to it, he could have done it. That's the thing, it isn't necessarily Tywin's war, it's Robert's war that Tywin can maybe nudge him into, and benefit from.
A fair point, but an attack on Braavos means attacking ALL of Braavos, not just the assets controlled by the Iron Bank. And while there would undoubtedly be a great number of people thrilled that their debnts to the (((Iron Bank))) are now void, there would be just as many more powerful and influential people with a vested interest in keeping it around. It's an interesting what-if scenario to consider, and you're right, Robert could probably be very easily talked into invading, but outside the Iron Islands the Westerosi don't have a great track record of being naval powers.
Imagine being this much of a brainlet
